Leadership Message
Parents are a child's first and most important teacher. Modeling kindness, respect and a love of learning creates a solid foundation for our children. Teaching our children that school is a place where learning is important helps build their intrinsic motivation. A positive, supportive outlook on school allows children to develop independence, cooperate with others, and be more willing to accept challenges. It is fun to learn, grow and connect! Learning is not something that is done to you, it is an active process that builds brains and fosters relationships.
Parents, even in those challenging moments, thank you for modeling that school is a safe and caring, faith-filled place where important learning and growing happens every moment. We are Better Together!

Celebrating Valentine's Day: February 14
This year we will celebrate Valentine’s Day at school on Tuesday, February 14.
Request and reminder as we approach the “sweet” day of Valentine’s Day: Please do not send in any food items as “treats” along with Valentine’s cards for our classmates. We have many students with various food allergies and sensitivities. If you choose to add a special something, you are most welcome to add any non-food items such as a pencil, sticker, or bookmark.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.
Pre-K and Kindergarten Early Learning Information Night.
If you are interested in registering your child for one of our Pre-K or Kindergarten (ECS) programs this fall, you are invited to attend our Early Learning Information Night on Feb. 15 at 6:30.
We recognize that Pre-K and Kindergarten are often the first steps on the school journey for your children and having a chance to visit the school, to see the classrooms and to meet of Student Support Team is an important part in in choosing what's best for your child.
ECS programs are designed for children who will be five years of age before January 1, 2024. Pre-K programs are designed for children who will be four years of age before January 1, 2024 or three years of age (with PUF Funding) before January 1, 2024.
Choosing Catholic Education is more than just attending a Catholic School. It’s an opportunity to embrace God’s love and share His gift of joy in our families, parish and faith/ learning communities.
We love our school and would love to journey with your child! Come and visit St. John XXIII School. For more information, please contact the school at 780-998-7777.
There will also be an Open House later in the spring.
Planning for the 2023-2024 school year!
Meet Oliver!
Oliver is in grade 4 at St. John XXIII in Mrs. Maynard’s class and he has been growing his hair out for over a year. He has become well known at St John for his long locks. He decided to grow out his hair with the goal of cutting it off to raise money for childhood cancer.
On Thursday, February 16th, Oliver will be selling cookies for a donation of $1 or more. Students are invited to bring a donation to school and each class will have a time to visit the cookie stand.
All of the money Oliver raises will go directly to Kids Cancer Care Foundation. He wants to help kids who live near him and he loves that Kids Cancer Care organizes camps for kids, while also funding important research.
You can also visit Oliver's website to watch his fundraising progress:

On February 24th, he will be cutting his hair and donating it to Eva & Co. Wigs which partners with BC Children's Hospital- Wigs for Kids Program.

Ask your children about what they have learned and which was their favourite event! Here is a link to the official 2023 Arctic Winter Games
Thank you families for sending your kids dressed and ready for outdoor play each day.
As weather changes quickly, please send in layers. An extra pair of gloves and socks are great to have in backpacks on those wet days.
We are in need of new socks to keep in the office.
Thank you for your consideration.
