Benton Weekly Update
Week 18: January 5-8, 2021
New Year, New Semester, New Zoom Expectations!
We hope you and your families enjoyed a peaceful holiday, and that the new year brings a fresh and better start for all!
Students of the Month for December are showcased below. Congratulations to all of our Students of the Month!
Our teachers will be setting improved expectations for cameras during zoom sessions. We want students to have their cameras on during class time. This helps us check for understanding and monitor progress. It also helps us monitor your children better to ensure they are doing their school work and not spending their time with other pursuits. We understand that there are some legitimate circumstances where a camera needs to be off and we will individually work with families as the need arises. But, we feel our "cameras on" policy will ultimately lead to higher engagement. We greatly appreciate your support.
Some students have been struggling with Distance Learning, and need additional support. We have formed Math & Language Arts Enrichment classes to provide additional support to students in need. This has necessitated some schedule changes. Affected students have been messaged to refresh their Schoology Courses to see these changes.
Open Enrollment for NLMUSD schools has begun and will continue through the end of January. If you have friends or neighbors who have children starting middle school, be sure to let them know that in addition to a strong academic program with honors courses, Benton is the destination for the Arts!
We know that with the closure of Los Coyotes, many parents are considering which school is the best fit to meet their child's needs. For anyone who would like to learn more about Benton, we are offering Virtual Tours and are eager to share about our wonderful programs and staff! Check out our Choose Benton video below!

What's up this week?
Wednesday is Period 1A 9am-10am.
Log into your period 1A Zoom 9-10, then complete the iReady Diagnostics for Math & Reading.
These diagnostic tests are critical for measuring growth, assessing student needs, and developing instruction. Please make sure your child completes these diagnostic tests by the end of January, and that they do their best work.
