RCSD Tagline

From the Desk of Superintendent Dr. John Baker:

Happy 2020, RCSD community!

We are three weeks in after winter break and excited to have our students back with us for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

This second half of the school year started with quite a surprise for the Kennedy Middle School Cougars as they walked onto their school campus using their brand new entrance. I’m referring to the new building that welcomes the Kennedy Cougars to school every morning! Kennedy students and teachers joined the Board of Trustees and guests earlier this month as we celebrated the building’s inauguration.

This new front entrance building at Kennedy, along with the entire school’s modernization project, is part of the larger plan to make required repairs and upgrades across the entire school district. I am sure that you have noticed the number of construction projects taking place at all RCSD sites, which means that there will soon be more celebrations.

These repairs are taking place in our schools thanks to you--the supportive RCSD community who always thinks of Redwood City children first. We are thankful to the voters who came out in 2015 and approved the Measure T bond, which is specifically designated for this construction work.

I am excited for your child, as well as our teachers and staff, as they will soon enjoy either new or upgraded spaces that are currently or soon will be under construction.

John Baker

Registration and School of Choice for 2020-21 Now Open

Big picture

On January 15, 2020, the school district started to help new families register for the 2020-21 school year. Many families followed the process online while others visited their neighborhood school and the district office.

RCSD launched the registration season immediately after Meet RCSD Night, which is an annual event the district organizes to welcome new families and introduce them to their child’s new school district. Families had the option of attending the event at either Kennedy Middle School or Hoover Community School where they heard from Superintendent Baker, they spoke with school principals, teachers, and current parents, and enjoyed entertainment from some of RCSD’s most talented students.

In addition, families looking to transfer their children to a program or school other than their assigned neighborhood school filled out a School of Choice form. The School of Choice process also opened on January 15. Families have until February 12 to fill out a School of Choice form before this first window closes for the random lottery. Click here to review the timeline for key dates during the registration and school of choice process.

RCSD Seeks Your Feedback About Your Child’s Education

Big picture
It’s Climate Survey season! The school climate survey measures many aspects of the educational environment, including perceptions of school safety, family engagement, and the overall social and learning environment. Your anonymous feedback will provide a representative picture of the school in order to identify specific strengths, as well as areas for improvement within a school. Surveys are site specific. Look for an email or text from the RCSD Department of Health and Wellness. If you haven’t filled out the survey, another opportunity is coming up as you’ll receive a final reminder next week.

Earn Some Extra Money While Your Child is in School!
