Every Child Every Day with Excellence!
January 2022 Family Newsletter
Sam Houston Elementary Mission
From Principal Cavazos
Greetings Sam families!
Happy New Year! We are so grateful to have our students back in school. We hope you all had a wonderful break. We hope you are all well.
We had a wonderful month of December. Some of our highlights:
- Spelling Bees took place (Both regular and Spanish)
- School Board member, Cathy Hernandez and Superintendent, Dr. Moore visited Sam Houston for a class read aloud
- Middle of the year district assessments took place in 1st-5th grades
- PTA meeting was held
- Brighter Bites took place
- Polar Express Day activities for students
- 12 Days of Christmas
We are beginning the spring semester. Our students are continuing to still learn all they need to know. We want to stress the importance of all students being in school every day and on time unless they are ill. Keep communication with us when your child needs to be out.
We want to remind all parents to show your child's dismissal tag at walker and car rider pick up. Every child is assigned a dismissal number tag. If you need one, please contact our front office. The tag provides a safe and orderly dismissal for all students.
If you do not have your tag for dismissal, you will need to come into the front office to present your ID in order to pick up your child. If you send someone to pick up your child, they must present the dismissal tag or pick up in the front office with an ID. We release office pick ups after our regular dismissal has finished.
Respectfully,
Michelle Cavazos

Happy New Year! It's time to teach our children how to set goals to make 2022 the best year yet. Our character education theme of the month is perseverance. We want children to learn to keep trying despite any obstacles that may get in their way.
Are you interested in being a parent volunteer? See Ms. McCabe after filling out a criminal background check found on our campus webpage under the parent tab.

Message from Mrs. Tovar, Librarian
January means the start of a new year and new goals. Let's make a goal this year to spend more time reading as a family! Children who are read to on a daily basis have a higher likelihood of becoming avid readers. Please discuss with your child what they are reading and encourage them to read every night for at least 20 minutes.
