From Mrs. Gadaleta

Day of Service - The students of EFS, alongside their teachers and parent volunteers, were able to collect and fill 100 Shoprite bags of goods to donate to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair. The students created more than 150 colorful pictures for the Color A Smile organization in Morristown which will mail them to troops, senior citizens, and anyone in need of a smile. A monetary donation of $50.00 will also be made to the cause. The children also filled over 250 ziptop bags of fresh produce through the Table to Table organization for donation to senior citizens in Newark. The EFS Student Council presented Table to Table with a check for over $1,300 for additional support of their cause through the Bag a Lunch fundraiser. These activities, in addition to the Spreading Kindness Assembly and viewing of Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech as a whole school community, provided our EFS students with opportunities to make a positive impact for others. Thank you to the staff, PTA volunteers, Kiwanis, Shoprite, Table to Table, Camfel Productions, Color A Smile, Human Needs Food Pantry and, of course, the students for making our EFS MLK Day of Service a success.

Illness Update

Dear Parents, While the number of student absences is decreasing at EFS, there are still several illnesses that have been reported across all grade levels. Flu B and Strep Throat are two contagious illnesses that have been reported as well as children presenting with a stomach virus and norovirus. Please continue to monitor your child(ren) for symptoms of fever, nausea, tiredness, and loss of appetite. The sooner you have your child seen by a physician, the sooner he/she will be on the road to recovery. Please be reminded that a child must not present with a fever or vomiting for at least 24 hours (without fever reducing medication) before he/she can be admitted back to school. We would like to limit the germ exposure to other students as much as possible. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely, Michelle Gadaleta and Nurse Renz

The Seeing Eye

The Seeing Eye is coming to visit Essex Fells School on Friday, January 31. This wonderful organization helps people who are blind independently live and travel safely through the use of Seeing Eye dogs. This presentation will teach children about blindness, the philanthropic mission of the Seeing Eye, and the satisfaction that comes from helping others.

To help raise awareness, Essex Fells School will be setting up a collection jar to contribute to the Seeing Eye. If you would like to participate, any donations can be sent to school from Monday, January 27 until Friday, January 31. 100% of the donations collected will go directly to the programs that benefit the health and welfare of the dogs in the program.

All children have their own notebooks that they use to respond to questions in written or drawing form. Students are welcome to share their responses if they choose!
