Open House
We are very excited to begin the new school year. As seen thus far, the 2020 school year promises to be a year like no other. As we prepare for Open House and greeting our students and parents, I need to share with you some adjustments to how Open House will take place.
Although we would love to greet all of our families in person and give each of our students a hug, we must take precautionary measures to reduce risks. Therefore, “In Person” Open House will only be available for parents and students who are new to Parsons. These adjustments are meant to reduce the number of people in the building at any given time and promote a safer environment for all. Through this experience, we hope to provide all the information needed for a successful opening of school. Cluster principals have collaborated to create a safer and more streamlined experience for the Peachtree Ridge Cluster Elementary Schools.
Here is what to expect:
IN PERSON OPEN HOUSE:
Only students who are NEW to Parsons Elementary will come for “In Person” Open House on Thursday, August 6th.

HR Updates/Accommodations for Returning to Work on July 29
After seeking further guidance from HR, the following accommodations are available:
Social Distancing/Workplace Spacing
- Alternative on-site workspace locations can be secured for staff members to reduce their proximity to others. Alternative workspace options include available areas of the school or central office building.
- Schools should consider labs, gymnasiums, theaters, cafeterias, and libraries.
Bringing School-Age Children to Work
- Staff members are able to bring their school-age children on-site to the school or Central Office, to the extent that they are able to perform their essential duties while also attending to their children.
- Adjusting Work Hours/Report Time Completing all work hours within the regular work day within 30 minutes of the regular work day.
What options exist for staff members who are not comfortable returning on-site, after considering the options above?
- If the staff member has a medical disability, is caring for someone with a medical disability, or has childcare issues related to COVID that are not addressed by the above, they can contact the Leave Administration office at Leave@gcpsk12.org.
It is our goal to take care of "Our PRIDE", so please do not hesitate to reach out to Michelle or Laura if you have further questions.

Analyzing the Standard
Analyzing the Standards documents are valuable tools for Collaborative Learning Teams to leverage as they plan for instruction. In preparation for the start of the school year, teachers should begin with analyzing AKS 1, 2, 3, and 9 which are the focus for Unit 1: Read, Write, and Reconnect.

Odds and Ends
- The county will create formative and summative unit assessments in LA & MA that will be used at each grade level.
- This year, we will use Google Classroom through eCLASS for digital work. If you are not proficient with Google Classroom you need to register to view the module in the PD&E
Digital Learning Modules - Every teacher needs to be prepared!
You can register for the course through the PD&E. The course is titled, "eCLASS Preparing for Digital Learning" Course #25849. Returning teachers can watch a few of the modules based on their individual growth needs or you can watch all the modules. Either way, it's a GREAT learning resource.
2020 Summer Professional Learning
Curriculum and Instruction is excited to facilitate professional learning for teachers during summer 2020 in both digital and face to face formats. All Summer Institutes are designed with a common focus equipping teachers with knowledge, skills, tools, and resources to support teaching and learning as we plan to launch SY 2020-2021. Each Summer Institute offers grade level/course specific professional learning to model effective practices in curriculum, assessment, and instruction in both face to face and digital contexts with students. As you review the summer 2020 catalog, we hope that you will select the learning that best meets your professional learning goals as you begin planning for the upcoming school year with your students.
