School News You Can Use

Hello Walden Families!

Last year, our district had great success helping local families during the holiday season. This year, Walden would like to continue this tradition to help spread cheer in 2021 by inviting you and your family to participate in our gift giving campaign. This is our way of making sure our Walden families will have something special to unwrap this holiday season.

Here is how you can support our families:

  • Click the button below to see the list of requested holiday gifts using SignUp Genius. (This list will continue to grow so please check back frequently to see what else is needed/wanted).

  • Select the gift (s) that you would like to purchase.

  • Drop off your purchased items to Walden on any weekday between 8:00-4:00, from November 29 - December 6. Please make sure you label the gift with the name and number that corresponds to the SignUp Genius! (i.e. Pinecone)

  • Please do not wrap gifts.

  • Gifts will be distributed starting the week of December 13.

  • If shopping doesn’t appeal to you, please consider donating a gift card (Target, Amazon, Jewel, etc.)

Our goal is to come together as a community to make everyone’s holiday bright this year! Thank you for your support.

Regards,

Stephanie Strenger

Happy Thanksgiving!

As we head into the extended Thanksgiving break I want to take a moment to wish all of our Walden families, staff, and students a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope that you will find time to relax with family and friends. I am truly thankful for each of you and I feel lucky to be a part of the Walden community. I am also truly thankful that we continue to take steps towards a more "normal" school environment. That being said, I encourage everyone to maintain necessary mitigations throughout the Thanksgiving holiday to keep you, your family, and our Walden community safe.

Progress Reports Posted Today!

Progress reports have been released in Family Access. The District 109 progress report is based on the principles of “standards-based grading” which is a way to communicate what students know at a point in time rather than calculating an average of performance over an entire period. Standards-based grading measures a student’s performance according to the standards taught rather than comparing student progress to other students.

SHIELD Testing Update

Due to increased testing volume across Illinois, DPS109 now receives SHIELD results within 48 hours. This slower turnaround time impacts our ability to contact families prior to the next school day with results. We ask for your continued partnership in keeping students healthy and in school. Please complete Daily Health Certifications, and make sure your contact information is current in Family Access to help your nurses/staff efficiently make notifications and contact trace.

DPS109 School Calendar for 2022-2023

The official 2022 - 2023 School Year Calendar was approved by the Board of Education on November 19th, 2021. Please see the calendar on the DPS109 website.
