Clark School District Week of October 11th - October 17th
Fall is in the Air
Fall is definitely in the air with the cooler weather and fall activities that keep us oh so busy during the school week. It is hard to believe, but the end of Quarter 1 is October 15th. It has flown by! I continue to be amazed by this community and the collaboration that takes place to educate our kids. It is a great place to be.
This past week included the completion of NWEA MAP testing for our High School students. There is a make-up day on Tuesday, October 12th for the those students needing to make up any missed sessions. Our teachers started digging into the data this past Friday during teacher inservice. Our teachers were also introduced to a number of instructional strategies from our Title Coordinator, Jessica Jans. We appreciate her leadership as we navigate how to best meet the needs of our English Language Learners. We found that many of the strategies introduced are great strategies for all learners. We are thankful for the opportunity as educators to continue learning and collaborating in a way that truly benefits our students.
This upcoming week brings us another busy week of extra-curricular events. We encourage our students to work closely with their classroom teachers to ensure they are staying caught up on their assignments when they know they will be absent due to an activity. We are still requiring green activity sheet completion for our Middle School students, but will be eliminating this requirement for our High School students. We expect our High School students to continue to show us responsibility with their classes and management of their activities, but believe they are at a point at this level where they can have more independence managing course work. They have done a nice job this year so far with this. Our green activity sheets for our Middle School students will still require them to check in with their teachers prior to leaving for an activity and verify that they have all assignments in and are on track prior to leaving for an event. This will be their ticket on the bus for activities they attend during the week. Our Middle Schools students continue to work on the responsibility with this.
This past week our Middle School students had the opportunity to learn more about bullying, as well as online predator & safety strategies from our local Clark Police Department. By creating an awareness of online risks we can empower our students to help prevent victimization and make safer choices. We appreciate law enforcement, parents, educators and the community as we continue to address online safety with our kids. It is definitely a team effort teaching our kids about these topics. We appreciate our parents as they continue to monitor their child's use of online media tools as well.
