Principal's Perspective
It's finally Carnival weekend!!! We can't wait to open our doors and have so much fun playing games, eating food, being friends, and enjoying time with our school family! The silent auction is live and you can start bidding now. The link can be found here.
We'll also have our lost and found at the Carnival for you to claim any items that belong to your child. We'll be donating any remaining items afterward and starting fresh next week.
Don't forget to change your clocks this weekend as we spring forward.
In partnership,
Mary Beth Fischer
A Note from Nurse Jeannie
Dear Parents,
Just FYI! Strep Throat, Pink Eye, and Head Lice seemed to be three things that I have been seeing consistently the past couple of months. Please take a minute to review.
Strep Throat is a bacterial infection and is treated with an antibiotic. It has been on the rise everywhere and some students have had it numerous times this year. Along with that, we are seeing antibiotic resistance in some cases.
Symptoms: Headache, sore throat, stomach pain, and vomiting that starts abruptly. Fever is not always a symptom with this particular strain that is going around.
Please remember students should remain home until they have had at least a FULL 24 HOURS of an antibiotic treatment (1 FULL SCHOOL DAY) and are FEVER FREE (<100˚F) without using fever reducing medication. If your student does not feel any better after 3 days or at the end of their antibiotic regimen, please consult your physician to be rechecked for Strep.
Pink Eye has also had an uptick in cases. It can be bacterial or viral and spreads easily among children.
Symptoms: Inner white of the eye will begin to turn pink or red accompanied with excessive tearing, burning and a thick discharge, usually yellow or green.
If these symptoms are present, DO NOT send your child to school; they will need to be evaluated by a physician. The student may return to school 24 HOURS ( 1 FULL SCHOOL DAY) after treatment has been started or a physician’s note indicating no treatment was necessary.
Head Lice is not on the rise, but we are seeing more cases recently in comparison to the past 3 years, during COVID. While Head Lice are a nuisance, they do not spread disease and are not a health issue.
Symptoms: Itching is the most common symptom, but in most cases, children do not even realize that they have head lice. It takes about 2 weeks before other signs will appear. They may feel a ticklish feeling on their heads, especially at night when the lice are more active, and this will increase to a more intense itching. Small white specs in the hair that cannot be blown or flicked off, are lice eggs called nits.
Your child will need to be treated with a Head Lice product and then they may return to school. Combing out the nits is one of the most important parts of their treatment. Head lice have become very resistant to most over the counter products; so you may want to consult your physician.
Check your child often as part of their routine hygiene. Notify the school and anyone that your student might have been in contact with. Never share personal articles, such as combs, brushes, hair clips and hats.
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Lunch Visitors at MGES
We are opening up the opportunity for family members to join their child/children for lunch! For student safety and to accommodate our limited cafeteria seating, we are allowing our families to visit once a trimester. To be prepared for our guests and to check the Safe Visitor Registration of incoming visitors (this is required for every visitor) please make sure you register 24 hours in advance.
We allow 5 visitors per grade level lunch. Please use one slot per person signing up. Due to limited space, visitors will be sitting with their child(ren) at their classroom tables. District News
Join the WWS Team!
Westfield Washington Schools is committed to meeting the needs of each student. The best way to accomplish our mission and vision is to ensure that every position in the district is filled with a caring individual dedicated to ensuring each student learns and grows. Being part of a dynamic team, working to ensure each student achieves their full potential is inspiring and energizing. Applying and working as an Instructional Assistant (IA) in one of our schools is an excellent career choice for individuals who would like to make a profound difference in the lives of children. All nine schools currently have open IA positions. We offer full-time and part-time positions. Our IA positions allow parents to work during their students' school schedule - thus eliminating the need for child care - while directly contributing to the success of their student’s school. We operate at optimal levels when we are fully staffed with IAs.
If you are interested in joining our team, please contact your building principal or assistant principal or click here to apply. If you have any questions about these opportunities, please contact Stacy McGuire, Assistant Director of Human Resources, at mcguires@wws.k12.in.us.
