Welcome Back!
This year has started off so well! In each class, we talked about expectations for the library as well as our book policies for this year. The details can be found on the LLC website but here's a quick list:
- Books are checked out for one week. They can be renewed twice.
- If books are overdue for more than one month, students cannot check out until the book is returned (a notice will be sent)
- Kindergarten can check out one book
- First and Second can check out two books
- Third, Fourth and Fifth can check out three books
If you have any questions, please email me.
Online Safety
Students in grades 3-5 have each learned about a different aspect of online safety. Third grade focused on keeping private information private. Fourth grade learned about having good netiquette. Fifth grade combined both of these ideas to work on having a good digital presence. In each class we talked about the importance of being the same person online as you are offline.
Poetry Books
Last year's poetry writers have been published! We have four copies available here at the Lowell library and many of our students are included inside. Be sure to check out a copy if you want to read some wonderful haikus!
Series Fun
Students in grades K-2 have been learning about different series and what it means when a book is a part of a series. Kindergartners used the Clifford series to find different parts of a book including title page, spine, and author. First graders used Fly Guy, Cork and Fuzz, Biscuit, and Elephant and Piggie to practice alphabetical order. Second grade used their understanding of the library to help label red dot series such as Magic Tree House, Ivy and Bean, A to Z Mysteries and Geronimo Stilton.

Bluestem Battle
Students in grades 3-5 are quickly digging into this years Bluestem list! After reading a book, students come to the library to answer a question. Each correct answer earns their class a point and gets that individual student one step closer to voting for his or her favorite in March! Encourage your student to find these books on display at the Wheaton Public Library, too.
