We Belong Here!
Good day, Falcons:
As another week is upon us, I hope you are healthy and your wellbeing is calm. Right now, there is a lot of change taking place. As you know, change is hard in itself, even on a normal day, and now things are less than normal. With all struggles and adversity come resiliency. We will be strong for this. We will be stronger for having gone through this together and for being available for one another. One day, twenty years from now, we will look back on this time and ask each other, “What did you do in 2020 when it was time to shelter in place?” We are home safe and sound. Since “there is no place like home,” let’s find ways to remain safely in place where we are now.
We are reminded that “humans cannot be humans without other humans.” It is in our connectedness through our common struggles, our common experiences we are brought closer together. We must remain connected to one another. While it is hard not to be able to see our friends and family, “We Belong Here” in “Our House”,we will remain connected to our family, our friends, our community.
A few ideas to stay connected
Write a letter or make a homemade card, and send it in a stamped envelope.
Watch a movie together over the phone, scary movie, musical, movie with classic one liners.
Send a card to someone in your neighborhood.
Create a music compilation with friends over social media.
Play HeadsUp on FaceTime.
Play “Who Sank My Battle Ship” – then there is no cheating.
Play charades, hangman, Pictionary, Name That Tune, etc.
Put a blanket down and have a picnic together.
Bake cookies together and exchange recipes.
Mindful Moment
It is important for us to continue to practice mindfulness every day. Having a mindfulness practice helps us to reduce stress, improve impulse control, helps with the ability to focus and concentrate Even to practice once a day for one minute a day, will help. Practicing mindfulness, teaches us to be in the moment, to remain calm, even when things are not.
Social Emotional Lesson #2-Digital Footprint
Below is an activity/interactive lesson on Digital Footprints and how it is used. As we all know the internet, e-communication and social media are all major parts of how we stay connected. However, there can be some major pitfalls and dangers. This lesson specifically addresses how almost everything you do on the internet, social media and electronically has a record and is tracked. The lesson also explains how your data is used. This activity maybe one of the most important lesson in the EverFI Ignition series. In fact it maybe just as valuable for adults as students.
The EverFi registration PowerPoint is still below in case you did not register last week. Please take a few minutes to check out this valuable lesson.
Each week a new activity will be posted. If you have any issues with the program do not hesitate to reach out to Andrew Lightner alightner@powayusd.com . I will do my best to address your concerns.
