8th Grade News and Notes
- We are thrilled to see a decrease in the amount of missing work that students have. We have implemented a fun activity time on Friday for students who have no missing work, which we believe has been a big help in seeing this decrease.
- Please remind your student that it is important to make sure they are doing their own work and trying their best on it, not just seeking out answers to be done with an assignment. Please also remind them that their teachers are here to help them with any questions that they have.
- Additional, 8th grade ELA is trying out a few new curriculum resources. The one that is currently being piloted is called “Into Literature,” if you have a student in high school this is the resource that is used there. After we finish with the unit called “The Thrill of Horror,” we will be trying out another resource called “StudySync.” If you have questions about it please ask your student how they like it or reach out to Mrs. Hedsand.
We look forward to another great month with the 8th grade students.

7th Grade News and Notes
- In ELA, students are working collaboratively in book clubs reading realistic fiction and experiencing the novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli as a class read aloud. Following our literature unit, we will be moving to a writing unit where students will be authoring their own narrative story.
- In Math, students are just wrapping up chapter 2 where we reviewed and learned about a variety of topics including: long division, integers, graphing and more! Soon we will be starting chapter 3 where we will explore different aspects of standard operations and start to apply these to more complex number problems.
- In Social Studies, students are being introduced to populations and world political systems. Students just completed their climate & weather unit. We will soon begin our North America unit where we explore the geography and history of the continent!
- In Science, students finished learning about microscopes, cell theory, and the basic structure and function of cell organelles. We are currently learning about cell processes like cell transport, photosynthesis, cellular, respiration, and cell division.

6th Grade Notes
We have had a great start to the year in 6th grade. 6th grade student behaviors have been off to a really solid start. Students have been respectful towards teachers and peers, on a daily basis.
There are a few reminders we have:
- Please help students to remember to have their Chomebooks charged on a daily basis. We use these very regularly throughout the week.
- There will be homework most nights. Students have the opportunity to complete this during study hall, but may not always finish it. We have had an uptick in missing work, as of late.
- Please continue to check Infinite Campus for missing work and grades.
We have been really impressed with student engagement and students taking part in class discussions. It’s been a fun couple of months so far!
