Mrs. Lee's Weekly Update
Husky Kinder Happenings...
Week 17
Welcome to my new weekly update newsletter and Happy New Year! We had a WONDERFUL week back!!! It sounds like everyone had a fantastic break and all the kids were ready for a week of learning and fun when they came back.
We started off the week with getting routines back in place and talking about New Years Resolutions. We read a fun story called, Squirrels New Years Resolution and created some resolutions of our own. I'm sure most of you heard we have a new clip chart in our room which brought some excitement. The reward system still works the same. We just have different colors on there. I did not get a chance to pass out reward coupons for the week today, because we had a PENGUIN WALK with the whole school!! (I will pass out the coupons on Monday). We encouraged the kids to start the year off healthy by taking a school wide health walk this afternoon. We made some fun penguin headbands and waddled around the campus. It was a lot of fun and a beautiful day to do so! Some of their little legs got tired by lap 2!
In Math, we started a new unit on coins. They had an absolute blast learning songs about coins and learning about each new coin every day. In kinder we learn about the penny, nickel, dime and quarter only. Hopefully they can tell you some fun facts this weekend about a coin or two.
During Unit and Reading this week we read Jan Brett's The Mitten every day. We listened to the story, read it in a story book, read it in a big book and focused on retelling the story. Retelling is a very important part of comprehension and it all starts in Kindergarten. They retold the story as a class and their version is absolutely adorable. We synergized together and made a giant mural that will go on display in the hallway this upcoming week. We talked about the setting and they created one. They each were able to contribute in the making of the animals and a few really loved making snowflakes with our Churchill helper, Miss Rebeca. I added their words to the mural this afternoon and hope to show you all a picture of it in next weeks update.
Take Home Readers- Please make sure your child is reading nightly to you and that you are sending their reader back when they are fluently reading and comprehending the story.
Upcoming Things to Remember....
