2015 Library Review

Report for Annual Evaluation

Goal 1: Plan, implement and complete three lessons on Digital Citizenship in compliance with CIPA by February 2015.

Students in grades K-5 participated in digital citizenship lessons. K-2 lessons were "Going Places Safely", "Sending Email" and "Strong Passwords". Grades 3-5 lessons were "Talking Safely Online", "Cyberbullying/The Power of Words" and "Strong Passwords". These topics were revisited as necessary during the year. Cyberbullying was also addressed in Mrs. Stell's counseling lessons.

Goal 2: Support student achievement through school wide promotion of Accelerated Reader.

Accelerated Reader continues to be a strong focus at Westpark. Teachers are provided weekly printouts of student's progress towards their Accelerated Reader Goals. I work closely with teachers to troubleshoot with Renaissance Place to facilitate classroom participation.

Students and faculty are kept abreast of AR achievement thru timely postings of current grade level success rates, student goal getters, schoolwide books and words read. Student achievement for all goal getters is celebrated with goal getter parties every six weeks. This year the focus has changed to grade level goal getters rather than individual achievement to be more inclusive. Additionally, this year I started a 'Millionaire's Club" to honor our best readers, currently 15 students in 2nd-5th grade are proud members of the club!

Student library cards are kept up to date with their current reading level to encourage grade level appropriate instructional reading...with the occasional foray out of the system for something they really love!

Smart Goal #3 Decrease the average age of the collection by weeding old, unused and damaged materials from the collection.

To date, 703 books have been weeded from the library collection, this process will continue thru the end of the school year. The current average age of our collection is 1996, which is one year less than the beginning of this year. We have 10, 532 book in the collection currently. During the course of this year, I have added over 420 new books from Follett, Scholastic and Bound to Stay Bound. This number will increase this summer as the district is allotting each elementary library an additional $2,700 in book funding to decrease the average age of our collections.

Smart Goal 4: Attend professional development thru FWISD Educational Technology and Library Media departments , Texas Library Association and Region XI.

I attended TLA in Austin this year ad received many exciting opportunities to hear about award winning books from authors, illustrators and Texas library leaders. I learned about emerging technologies, new children's literature, utilizing online resources ad collaboration with other librarians and educators. Additionally, I attended the FWISD Technology Conference, Region XI LEAP Conference, Discovery Education professional development and several courses thru the Ed Tech department. As a new librarian I still have much to learn and have registered for classes this Region XI classes on Aurasma, 2 makerspaces classes, 5 Google courses and the Prime Digital Learning library conference!

Smart Goal 5: Completely redesign the Westpark Library Page

This year I switched the webpage host from Wix to Weebly. I changed the format and design of every library page, expanding it to 11 pages of resources, links and the library calendar.
