Weather permitting, all parents are welcome to attend field day and rainbow classic. The events planned are meant to encourage teamwork and effort. June 26: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. Dismissal is at 11:15.

Sadly we say good bye to some wonderful teachers that have dedicated their lives to helping children reach success. Their years of experience will be greatly missed. Happy Retirement wishes go out to Melissa Cornthwaite, Alice Shearer, and Patty Fallis. You will be missed!

Classroom assignments: Like last year, classroom assignments will be mailed home in mid July.

As we close out the year, we also are looking forward to many new initiatives next year. We will begin with a back to school barbecue on August 27th from 5-7 hosted by Giffy’s along with music provided by Legacy. Weather permitting, bring your blankets & chairs, sit outside and enjoy a great dinner and music. If the weather is not conducive to sitting outside we will hold the barbecue under the pavilion and families can eat in the cafeteria. Families may walk thru the building and be reacquainted with the school, locate their child’s classroom and become comfortable with where they will report on the first day. Please look for the invitation to the barbecue and send your order in ASAP.

During the 2014-15 school year we are looking forward to offering:

BOCES Enrichment classes to include computer coding, Chinese and Galway Scholars. We will also offer additional enrichment opportunities through Skidmore College.

Academic Support Lab during second dismissal will continue to be required for any student qualifying. We will also host homework help club at the same time. Transportation home will continue to be provided.

Schedules: Subject specific schedules in grades 4-6 for all students. Every student will have their homeroom teacher for reading and writing plus one other subject. The class will travel to a different grade level teacher for math, science and social studies. This will allow each teacher to really focus in on the subject they teach while allowing students an opportunity to experience varied teaching styles.

Foreign Language: We are currently working with the High School to coordinate schedules in order to offer a Spanish at 5th and 6th grade. As soon as we know if this option is available we will send a letter to all families. This is a great opportunity to our students and we truly hope it can come to fruition

School Banking will be available to all students. Parents may sign up their children on the evening of the barbecue or during the fall. Look for more information when student assignments are mailed home. We will have one specific day each week where children may deposit money and learn how saving money is both exciting and rewarding. The students will receive prizes for the number of deposits regardless of the amount. Students may submit report cards to receive monetary incentives from the bank. The credit union will also match student deposits up to 5.00 and children can watch their funds grow on line.

TV Studio:We will continue to look for ways to raise funds to build a new TV station for our elementary students.. Please support the efforts of our EBT (elementary building team) in raising funds for this exciting initiative.

Elementary Ski Club: We will offer an elementary ski club to students in grades 4-6. Ski club will take place on Wednesday evenings for 6 weeks and transportation to Willard Mountain will leave and return from the school parking lot. Sign up forms will be mailed home with classroom assignments in July. Every participant will be required to take a lesson and wear a helmet. Keep a look out for more information. The cost for ski club will be approximately $200.00 if rental equipment is needed and $170.00 with you own equipment. Plan ahead if interested.

It has been my pleasure working with the families and children at Joseph Henry Elementary School. Have a wonderful summer. Summer School will begin July 7th for those that received invitations. Stay safe and enjoy the warm weather.
