Summer Reading
AVOID THE SUMMER SLIDE
"Experts agree that children who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who do not often slide backward."

Haslet Public Library Summer Reading Club
The Haslet Public Library Summer Reading Club begins this Saturday, June 7. They're kicking it off with a Petting Zoo next door at the park!
Kids are encouraged to challenge themselves to read either 5 hours a week or 5 books a week. They can have someone to read to them, listen to audiobooks, or read ANYTHING that they enjoy (picture books, chapter books, comic books, etc.) and it all counts. They will receive a prize for each week that they reach their goal. Some of the local businesses have donated coupons, such as a free ice cream cone from Chick-fil-A and a coupon for LEGOLAND Discovery Center (parents pay but kids get in free). We're also doing a Scholastic Book Fair.
Families do not have to live in Haslet to get a library card at the library. They just have to live in Texas. Parents/guardians must get a library card before the child is able to. Children 5 and up are eligible to get library cards.
More importantly, parents and children do NOT have to get a Haslet Public Library card to participate in Summer Reading Club. They also do not have to participate in SRC in order to attend the events. Everything is free and there is no registration for the reading log or the events.
