Parent Update
October 7, 2021
Dear Parents,
Tomorrow is Picture Day. Students should wear their dress uniform. Please return the right side of the order form. Please remember that all orders must be done on-line prior to picture day or a handling fee of $8.50 may be applied. Ordering online allows you to select backgrounds and other products.
Progress Reports were sent home yesterday with each child. Please review with your student.
Don't forget to purchase your PTO Football Mania tickets online this year. No tickets will be sent home to you. If you do not purchase tickets, you will be billed the $140 Opt Out fee. See information below.
Grandparents Day, scheduled for October 22, has been postponed. It will remain a minimum day so please plan on picking up your student at noon.
We will be celebrating Halloween on Friday, October 29th. Our 8th grade will be hosting their Halloween Carnival during school hours. The Parish is hosting the Halloween Drive Thru in the evening (see information below). It is a minimum day (noon dismissal) and there will be no day care that day. Please plan accordingly.
If your child is absent, please call or email to let us know the reason. We need to know what the symptoms are if they are sick. Thank you for your help with this. We have created a Covid section with information below.
Remember to wash your hands and wear your masks. Vaccinations are recommended and protect everyone.
God Bless,
Mrs. Ferguson
A Plea for Parents
Dear Parents,
We would like to ask for your help. As a school community, we are seeing a rise in disciplinary problems on campus. A majority of the issues we are facing deal with students not keeping their hands to themself.
Our Bruins have not had a "normal" school year in two years, so we know that many issues stem from a lack of socialization during Covid. We are looking to you, our partners in education, to speak to your student about boundaries and kindness. We are doing all we can at St. Dorothy School, and know that if students hear the same message from all the adults in their lives, it can become even more meaningful.
Every Bruin is special to us and we want them all to succeed and feel cared for. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and loving home for all of our students.
Thank you,
The Faculty and Staff of St. Dorothy Catholic School

Allergy Aware School
We would ask that all families refrain from sending any tree nut or ground nut products to school. Some of our students are highly sensitive to both.
There are many types of allergies that we are aware of in our student population. To maintain a safe environment, we are also asking that any treats sent in for special events must be store bought and all ingredients must be clearly labeled.
We want to thank you for your consideration in the health and well being of our Bruins.
DID YOU KNOW? ONGOING REsources for parents
Did you know? October 16-17 || Escalating red flags in an adult’s behavior
In most abuse cases, the victim knows the offender. Offenders go to great lengths to ensure that they are not strangers, often spending months or even years hiding in plain sight. Parents should be aware of a few red flags that range from obvious to subtle, and usually indicate a more sinister relationship at work between an offender and potential victims. Some obvious signs include telling children dirty jokes or showing them pornography. More subtle signs could be an adult who wrestles or tickles often, wants to be alone with children, gives gifts frequently, or encourages children to keep secrets. For more red flags, request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “The Rationale of Warning Signs” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.
