This Week in Room 120
Week of May 6, 2013
Reader's Workshop
Writer's Workshop
This week the students will be working on getting a writing piece published. They will be typing their pieces, have them edited by peers and a teacher, and decide how best to publish. Our goal is to finish by the end of this week. We will let you know how we've decided to publish so that you can read your child's piece.
Word Study
Word solvers notice and reflect on Latin roots within words to aid in the spelling of a word and to decipher its meaning.
Roots we are studying:
-cap, -ci and -cept all mean "to take" or "to receive".
We will also be analyzing the poem "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus. This is a complex poem, but the students are ready for the challenge!

Math
The 8:00 group will be studying how to divide fractions this week. I will teach them to "flip the second number, then multiply" for division of fractions.
This week the 9:00 math group will be beginning to learn about the multiplication of fractions.
Announcements/Reminders:
