LSMSA Student Services Update
November 1st, 2013
Winter Formal Dance
Students wishing to drive their vehicles or ride with other LSMSA students on that night must submit a completed Winter Formal Dance Permission form. Students wishing to bring a non-LSMSA guest must submit the Dance Guest Registration form. All forms are due by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11th. Forms and an overview of policies for major dance nights are available on the LSMSA website.
As is tradition at LSMSA, an after-party, sponsored by the Student Activity Board, will be held in the LSMSA gymnasium following nightly room check.
Any questions about dance forms should be directed to Jackie Jacoby, Student Services Administrative Assistant, at jjacoby@lsmsa.edu or 318-357-2507.
Hall Spotlight: Prudhomme 2C
Andrew Nieman is the SLA for 2C. Drew is a long time member of our LSMSA community. He graduated from LSMSA in 2005, earning an Excellence in Residence Life award and the Marvin Lockhart award for work service. While earning his Bachelor of Social Work at Northwestern State University, he served as a residential life intern at Prudhomme hall and, two years later with degree in hand, he moved into the position of Student Life Advisor! Drew likes to provide a variety of programs for our Living/Learning community ranging from video game tournaments in the Recital Hall and his office to physical fitness in the Dance Studio. He also hosted a Pumpkin Painting event for students and families during our Connections Weekend.
Two peer mentors, one academic and one residential, are members of the 2C community. Glenn Underwood is a third-year senior and returns to his post as 2C Peer Mentor for a second year in a row! Maintaining positions as Ambassador, Peer Mentor, and leader of this year's Quidditch Association, Glenn plays an active role in our community. He acts as an older brother figure for new residents to the hall as they try to adjust to the classwork and living environment of Prudhomme Hall. He enjoys participating in weekly Dungeons & Dragons games in our "chill lounge," playing a round of Smash Brothers in Drew's office, or jumping into a pick-up game of Ultimate Frisbee. Students can find his room in the middle of the hall and seek his advice about managing time, friend issues, or other areas where they need support or direction.
Matthew Fults is an academic peer mentor this year and 2C is fortunate to have him as a resident! If anyone in Prudhomme needs help in math, physics, or programming C++, they can find him in the 2C study lounge on Mondays or in his room at any other time. When he's not tutoring others, you can often find Matt playing World of Warcraft, Mario Brothers, or Smash Brothers in either his room or Drew's office!

The LSMSA Website - Helpful Links for Parents
Have you explored the Current Parents section of the LSMSA website?
In that section, you'll find a page of useful resources for parents which includes links to required forms, information on fees, the link to order a cake or other goodies for your student, a calendar of extended weekends and holidays, and more!
The section also includes some tips from a former parent on "parenting long distance" and managing the travel between home and LSMSA.
