The mission of the South Davidson school library program is to provide an inviting learning commons for students and staff, to educate users in evaluating information, and to encourage transliteracy while developing life-long learners.

Circulation stats have been consistently higher for 7th grade students. These students are allowed to come into the media center for checkouts every time they come to Reading Plus.
High School circulation continues to trend lower than the middle school. High School teachers do NOT bring students to the library as a class; students can come in before/after school, during Wildcat and during their lunch periods.

What: Visit with Anne Marie from Mars Hill and DCS Lead Media Coordinator, Sedley Abcrombie
Who: Sandy Young’s Social Studies Classes
How: Using The Library of Congress website - www.loc.gov - students were introduced to and manipulated primary sources using maps.

High School Chorus Digs into Research
Students come into the media center weekly to work with Mrs. Howell and share what they've learned through the use of Padlet.
Scholastic Book Fairs - A Great Success!
This year the South Davidson Media Center hosted three book fairs and raised over $1600 to buy new Scholastic books for the library! Students and staff were even able to give input as to which titles were chosen for the library.
Professional Learning Communities
The middle school media coordinators met only once or twice this year. Mrs. Howell shared at their May 2nd meeting how the high school media coordinators meet monthly and a plan has been set into motion to begin this practice during the 2017-2018 school year.

*Implement a MS Book Club in addition to the Battle of the Books Team
*Continue to meet with HS Media Coordinators Monthly as a PLC
*Begin meeting with MS Media Coordinators Monthly as a PLC
*Reinstate High School Student Media Assistants
~We plan to have one student assistant each period each semester.
~Student Assistants will have assigned shelf responsibilities, clean labs, work on book displays, and develop Makerspace activities.
*Implement Monthly 30 Minute Sessions with MS ELA and HS English Classes
~Incorporate dedicated time to teach mini lessons focused on Information and Technology Standards (MS; HS), as outlined by DPI
~Lessons will include, but are not limited to: Sources of Information, Technology as a Tool, The Research Process, Safety and Ethical Issues
~Incorporate scheduled book checkout times within the 30 minute session to increase circulation and promote free/self-selected reading
