COVID is not gone, rates have started rising again. We need to keep everyone safe and healthy through the end of the year. Visit our YSD COVID information page for the latest testing and vaccine updates, data, safety updates, and more.
Here are some of the important reminders:
- Anyone with certain COVID-19-like symptoms is required to be sent home for a minimum of 5 days (new/changed/worse cough, fever over 100.4°, aches, loss of taste/smell, shortness of breath). Students may return after day 5 IF the symptoms and IF wearing a mask. Students can also return sooner with a negative test, an alternative diagnosis from a health-care provider, if symptoms have significantly improved and fever-free without medication for 24 hours.
- For other possible COVID symptoms (congestion, runny nose, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, sore throat), if there is only 1 symptom that resolves in 24 hours or is part of a diagnosed chronic illness, students may return 24 hours later with significant improvement and no fever for 24 hours without medication.
Roosevelt families, we want to understand your thoughts about the job we are doing in providing a quality education for your children. We use your feedback to keep improving what we're doing at Roosevelt:
- Please complete the survey by May 31 in English or Spanish: https://bit.ly/3FyPLMu.
- Please complete 1 survey per child in a YSD school.
- If you prefer a paper copy of the survey, please call our Roosevelt office at (509) 573-1700, and we'll mail one to you.
Your feedback is important and we want to know what you think are our strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you!

Roosevelt Families—As your child returns to school next fall, it’s important to make sure they are up to date on all their required vaccinations for the 2022-2023 school year. There are important changes to these requirements for next year.
To get ready, the Washington State Department of Health strongly encourages you to schedule your child’s immunization visit as early as possible with their doctor or health care provider, so your child is up to date well before the first day of school. Summer months are a great time to get your child caught up with immunizations. Schedule your appointments early, since doctors' offices' schedules quickly fill up in August. Turn in your updated immunization paperwork to Roosevelt by August 20. This is especially important if your child is transitioning to Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or 7th grade, because each of these grades has new requirements.
Students who do not meet the immunization requirements for school will be excluded from school, per Revised Code of Washington RCW 28A.210.120. According to this law, any child attending school in Washington State is required to be fully immunized against or have an exemption in place for the following diseases: Measles (Rubeola), Chickenpox (Varicella), Mumps, Haemophilus influenzae Type B Disease (Hib)*, German measles (Rubella), Hepatitis B, Diphtheria, Polio, Tetanus, Pneumococcal disease, and Whooping cough (Pertussis).
Please contact our Roosevelt school nurse, Mrs. Sandra DeBord RN BSN, at (509) 573-1712 if you have any questions. Thanks!
Congratulations to our wonderful teacher, Mrs. Alvena McClintick. Mrs. McClintick was awarded our staff rotating award, the Spirit of the Bear Award, for the week of May 23, 2022.
Here's what Mrs. Hinojosa wrote when nominating Mrs. McClintick:
I would love to pass the Spirit of the Bear Award to Mrs. McClintick. She is so awesome! She puts so much love, care, and thought into her students. She always has a positive attitude no matter the circumstances. Thank you so much for all you do, Alvena.
