Mrs. Farmer's Weekly News: September 8-11 (Tuesday-Friday)

  • The students proved to be true trailblazers this past week by conducting their first ever Socratic Seminar. They improved their speaking and listening skills while also stretching their leadership abilities. In addition, the students focused on their reading comprehension skills through our classroom novel, The Skin I'm In. Great work, Trailblazers!
  • We have another fantastic week ahead in Mrs. Farmer's class!


Common Core Standards Covered This Week:

ELACCW.6.1: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

ELACCW.6.6: Use technology to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others.

ELACCRL.6.10: By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems with varied complexity.

ELACCL.6.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage.


I can use technology to publish my writing.

I can determine and identify the basic parts of speech.

I can read various texts and provide evidence of comprehension.



  • Grammar bellwork.
  • Computer Lab: Set up personal blogs on KidBlog
  • Answer one short answer argumentative prompt based on the novel, The Skin I'm In.
  • Read and respond with accuracy to two other blog posts by fellow students.
  • Grammar bellwork.
  • Complete the rough draft of the argumentative essay based off choice in prompt.
  • Read chapters 6-8 of The Skin I'm In, and discuss.
  • Grammar bellwork.
  • Peer review essays/conference with Mrs. Farmer.
  • Write the final copy.


  • Reading Review Projects are DUE! Students will present and critique each others' presentations using a rubric called "two stars and a wish". Students must present their projects as part of the reading assessment.

Finalize Reading Projects: Watch for spelling and punctuation. It counts!
