Bulldog Bulletin
New Britton Elementary - October 16, 2015
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
Did you know that Hamilton Southeastern Schools serve over 20, 000 students in 21 schools and that we are the fastest growing school corporation in Indiana? As a staff we take pride in our schools and strive to find ways in which we can provide a small community feeling with a focus on students and families. As part of this process, our Superintendent, Dr. Bourff has been on a Listening Tour in order to receive important feedback from our families. New Britton will be hosting a stop on the Listening Tour on November 3rd at 7:00p.m. in our media center. For the complete list of Listening Tour dates please access this link (HSE Schools web site, News, Hot Topics)
http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/news/
I encourage you to come to school on November 3rd with any questions you may have and to hear from our Superintendent and other HSE Administrators regarding the continued vision for advancement and excellence in our schools. I challenge you to help me "pack the house" at NBE to show our collaborative commitment to our children's education.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a relaxing weekend and a safe and wonderful fall break!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Parent-Teacher conferences
Parent teacher conferences are quickly approaching and to get the most out of the conference come prepared. Before your conference time ask your child how they feel about school and what they like or would change about school. As you nightly look at your child’s papers and their assignment notebook/sheet, pull out a few papers that you might ask about with the teacher. Also bring a list of specific questions you would like to ask the teacher. More then likely the teacher will answer many of these questions, but it is always good to have something in front of you to look at and remember. Here are some questions that might be asked or covered in the conference:
· Is my child performing at grade level in reading and math?
· Does my child turn in homework regularly?
· What are my child’s strengths and challenges?
· Does my child get along with others?
· What can I do at home to support my child and the learning that is going on in your classroom?
Hope you have a good parent teacher conference. Enjoy Fall Break!
Chaucie's Place
NEW BRITTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children to our Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
The Smart Steps education program will be taught at NBE on October 20.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. Fall Creek Elementary will be hosting on Tuesday, September 15th from 6:00pm-7:00pm and Sand Creek Elementary will be hosting from 6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. These meetings are open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.

New Staff Spotlight
Hi! My name is Jenny Dickerson and I am the Teacher Development Specialist for NBE working with teachers on curriculum and instruction. I come to NBE from Lawrence Township where I served as a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade teacher, a Title One interventionist, and a K-6 instructional coach. It is my goal to make sure our students are engaged learners. Through HSE21, students will be learning all areas, including math and science, through authentic, hands on work.
On a personal note, I am married to my high school sweetheart, David, and we have two children, Nick (11) and Laney (3). At home I love to play the piano and read books, especially historical non-fiction. I am often reading at least three books at a time!!
Internet and Social Media Safety
HSE Schools is proud to partner with the Fishers Police Department to bring you an information session about internet and social media safety. The parents-only, face-to-face session is one hour, from 7:00-8:00 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 19th at Fishers High School in Café A. Please enter the building using door FH1 or FH7. Content presented will include: iPad restrictions and recommendations, general practices regarding protecting your child at home, using commonsensemedia.org, and safety in using social media.
While this content is applicable to families with students in grades 5-12 who are currently 1:1, the reality is that even our K-4 students have access to internet devices. All parents are more than welcome to attend.
Thank you for interest in digital citizenship and keeping our students safe. See you on Oct. 19th.

HSE FFA Fruit and Candle Sale
Hamilton Southeastern FFA, a joint chapter between Fishers and HSE, will be selling fresh fruit and soy candles from now until November 10th. Attached are the order forms for both the fruit and the candles, as well as a brochure detailing the options available in the fruit sale. If you would like to purchase anything, please fill out the form and send it back to lkschreck@gmail.com, or print your form and send it through the pony system, along with your money, to Tom Younts at HSE High School. The money from this fundraiser will be used to help fund experiences for these students that allow them to compete at a state or national level, develop their leadership skills, and become prepared for a variety of future careers.
