SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM - SWPBS - OLWEUS BULLYING PREVENTION PROGRAM
Here at East Vincent Elementary School we continue to implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. For those who are not familiar with Olweus, it is a research-based program that prevents or reduces bullying in schools. Olweus is NOT a curriculum, but instead a program that deals with bullying at the school-wide, classroom, individual and community levels. As a result, Olweus helps to make school a safer, more positive environment where students can learn.
What is bullying?
Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself. Bullying can take many forms such as hitting, verbal harassment, spreading false information, excluding someone from being part of the group, and/or sending mean messages via phone/social media.
All classrooms at East Vincent teach the following anti-bulling rules: we will not bully others, we will try to help students who are bullied, we will try to include students who are left out, and if we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home. These rules are displayed in our classrooms, as well as in common areas throughout the school building. In addition, class meetings are held where students talk about what bullying is. Students learn why bullying should not happen. They also learn to ask an adult for help if they see or experience bullying.
In the event your child feels he/she a recipient of bullying, please encourage them to fill out a bullying incident report. Bullying incident report forms can be found in the blue Bullying Prevention boxes on each floor of the building. Once the form is submitted, the claim will be fully investigated by school personnel. Olweus protocol (Interview/Think-About-It form- if needed) will be followed with the accused bully. A student who violates the anti-bullying policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action consistent with the Code of Student Conduct.
MARCH CAT CASH - WHOLE SCHOOL REWARD
The teacher who received the most votes for green hair for a day was Miss Jen. She will have her hair sprayed in the lobby on Monday morning around 8:30.
SAFETY AT EV
We held a successful exterior threat lockdown drill on Tuesday. Students and staff followed safety procedures and remained quiet and calm while OJRSD Safety and Security Staff observed.
SAFETY IN OJRSD
Based on FAA and PA State regulations which state,“Never fly over groups of people, public events, or stadiums full of people”; drones are not permitted on school grounds.

NOMINATE AN EV TEACHER - MAIN LINE TODAY MAGAZINE
This September, Main Line Today magazine will once again be celebrating some of our region’s best educators with our Top Teachers awards. This year marks the second annual feature, which is part of our larger education-focused September issue (you can see last year’s feature here).
The September 2018 issue featured EV sixth-grade teacher, Miss Tori DeCesare.
To help us find who those great educators are that go above and beyond each day, we’re hoping you, your schools, faculty, staff, students and parents will nominate teachers for consideration and that you’ll share the nomination process with them. The nomination form can be found at the link below. Please note our editorial team will base decisions on quality, not quantity, of nominations. Winning teachers will be notified in late April.
