Enjoy the Summer!
A Message From The Administration
Stronger together!
by Lead Principal Greg Marino
You did it! Our amazing students did it! We did it! We have made it to the end of this most unusual school year! So many emotions are swirling during these last few days of school, not to mention the physical exhaustion that many of us are experiencing together. On behalf of the all the faculty, staff, and leadership team of the Williston Schools, let me extend our most profound appreciation for your patience and partnership throughout this school year, and especially, over these last three months. I would also like to again thank our faculty and staff, including our incredible facilities and food service crews.
I am so thrilled that we have now received official word from the Governor and Education Secretary that we will be back in our school buildings again in the fall. Though we don’t yet know all the details, we can at least count on our students and teachers being back together again - in person. I know we’re all grateful for that. We promise to keep you informed throughout the summer months as details become clearer. Please remember, administrators are reachable over the summer months - when in doubt, please reach out. (Email is the most reliable way to reach us.)
Congratulations to our amazing 8th graders! We are all cheering them on tonight as they graduate from WCS. They have earned this honor and should be so proud of the accomplishment.
When words fail, pictures often come to the rescue. With that in mind, we sincerely hope you enjoy this short video. We did this together! We are stronger together!
Remember, your schools are still here for you. Please stay in touch. Enjoy your summer! We will see you in the fall!

8th Grade Graduation Thursday June 11th.
On the afternoon of Thursday, June 11th, we are planning a window of time for 8th graders from each team to be driven to the front of the school to receive their diploma, a graduation program and their yearbook (if it has arrived). The faculty from each team will be present to cheer our graduates on while maintaining the appropriate social distancing and adhering to the governor's size limitation for gatherings. We encourage our graduates to dress in their graduate attire for this special occasion! We plan to make this a festive event with music, decorations and more! We will have a photographer present to take a picture of each graduate in front of the WCS sign and pictures will be digitally available to each graduate. Note: We will be sending out a more detailed communication about the flow for the afternoon event, so that graduates and families in vehicles will know what to expect.
The following guidelines set forth by the Vermont Agency of Education will be followed. These include: · Only one graduate at a time to maintain social distancing · The graduate must wear a mask · All faculty present must wear a mask · Everyone will adhere to the social distancing guidelines · Only the graduate can exit the car · The diploma, program and yearbook must be in a bag or envelope.
At 7 pm we will have our virtual ceremony available for families to watch together. This will include most of the traditional elements including a Welcome, Pledge of Allegiance, 8th Grade Speeches, Yearbook Dedication, Presentation of 8th Grade Awards and reading graduate’s names accompanied by a slide. As usual, the 8th grade awards will be a surprise to students receiving them. We will mail the actual award the following day.
Diploma Presentation Times:
3:00-3:45 pm Voyager House
3:45-4:30 pm Swift House
4:30-5:15 pm Full House
5:15-6:15 pm Harbor House
7:00 pm Virtual ceremony
CVSD Enrichment Site Available for the Summer
The CVSD Enrichment site was developed for April vacation week, but has been updated since then. It is filled with ideas and opportunities to engage in somewhat educational, but always fun activities. We will continue to add more ideas in the coming weeks. Hopefully, it will provide some additional enjoyment over the summer. The link can also be found on the COVID Information page of the CVSD website. https://bit.ly/CVSDCovid
School-issued Chromebooks and the Summer
If your family borrowed a school Chromebook for remote learning, you should have received an email with information about the option to either keep the school-issued Chromebook at home or return it to school for the summer.
Families that choose to keep it at home would need to "opt-in" to this agreement, but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. Families that do not wish to take on this responsibility over the summer will learn more about the timing and process for returning it in the email you should receive this week.
If you questions about this, or did not receive the form via email, please contact Liz Neeld at WCS (lneeld@cvsdvt.org 871-6104) or Cindy Pavlik at ABS (cpavlik@cvsdvt.org 871-6203)

This will be set-up at the front entrance. Students can return any library books, instruments that belong to the school, materials and textbooks.

Allen Brook School will be having a final collection of materials and distribution of remaining items and materials on Monday, June 15 from 8 am to 2:00 pm.

Band Music and School Owned Instrument Return
Hello Band Families,
Our school has organized another collection on Monday, 6/15 and Tuesday, 6/16 of all things that need to be returned including school owned band music and books and school owned instruments. There will be staff at WCS to greet and collect these items from you.
What exactly needs to be returned?
Grade 4:
school owned instruments (Not Ellis rentals)
Grade 5:
school owned instruments. (Not Ellis rentals)
folders with band music, (binders for percussionists) If you purchased your red lesson book, you can keep it.
Stage Band members- Stage Band music
Grade 6:
school owned instruments. (Not Ellis rentals)
woodwind and brass players: folders with band music AND Blue Standard of Excellence lesson book
Percussionists- binder with all music
Stage Band members- Stage Band music
Grades 7 and 8:
School owned instruments (Not Ellis rentals)
Band folders (or binders) with all music
Stage Band members- Stage Band music
If you rent from Ellis Music, you do NOT need to return your instrument for the summer. In fact, I recommend that you keep it. It is much easier to keep it!
If you NEED to return an instrument for the summer, or need supplies from them, please contact them directly to make arrangements. (Please be sure to make a plan to get the instrument back in the fall as well.)
You can leave things for Ellis at school on 6/15 and 6/16, but you must communicate directly with them and label your instrument clearly. If you drop an Ellis owned instrument at school without a label and/or without communicating with them, your instrument could potentially be misplaced.
Questions? Please contact Kim Thompson. I am here to help!

SCHOOL YEAR 2020-21 IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
An official immunization record must be presented to the school upon admission. If a student doesn’t meet the vaccine requirements, or have a current school year exemption on file, they may be temporarily admitted only after the approval of a school nurse or administrator. Failure to meet requirements may result in exclusion from child care or school.
Students entering kindergarten must provide documentation of the following:
• 5 doses of DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) vaccine
• 4 doses of polio vaccine
• 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine
• 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine
• 2 doses of chickenpox (varicella) vaccine.
If the student has previously had chickenpox disease no vaccine or exemption is needed. Parents must submit documentation of disease or sign the Health Department form
Students entering the seventh grade must provide documentation of the following:
• All the immunizations listed above and
• One dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine.
• For residential students, one or two (age appropriate) doses of meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine
These requirements also apply to students in any grade entering a new school from outside of their previous supervisory union or district. Students not meeting the vaccine requirements must be vaccinated as outlined in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s catch up schedule.
Medical or religious exemption to one or more vaccines is allowed under the rule. An unaltered form must be submitted to the school. Religious exemptions require annual renewal. Students with an exemption may be excluded from school during a disease outbreak.
Additional information about immunizations and required forms may be found at: http://www.healthvermont.gov/disease-control/immunization/child-care-k-12-and-collegeimmunization-information-parents

Summer Math and Literacy Resource for Families
The goal of this 2020 Summer Math and Literacy Resources/Activities doc is to provide some optional activities and resources that students can use to strengthen and maintain their math and literacy skills over the summer. This has been a challenging Spring, so we do want to emphasize that these activities should be considered optional.
