A Thoughtful Classroom Update
Living and Learning in Third Grade
Nightly Homework
Just a reminder that each night students need to be making time for reading and math fact fluency! Reading can be enjoyed independently or as a partnership! Math fact fluency needs to be completed fast and furiously! Please help time your child! This high pressure practice will help them be more successful on the Friday assessment they take in class!
Reader's Workshop
Learning targets this week were: tracking story elements in order to determine the theme of a fiction story, inferring and drawing conclusions about the author's big idea, and using non-fiction text features to identify key ideas in a text. We will be moving on to our fiction unit. We will be sharing the results of our fiction pre-assessment next week!!
Math Workshop
Learning targets this week were: calculating/determining elapsed time, identifying the value of a digit, and rounding numbers to the nearest 10. Place value learning progressions will be our focus for the next two weeks!!
Writing Workshop
Lessons focused on: Choosing a perfect seed and starting a new flash draft for it, rehearsing our seed verbally with a partner, writing a strong lead for our seed, and making a storyteller's voice come alive in our bit by bit writing piece! The students are putting forth great effort with these small moment stories!
