Integrity!
This week our students will learn more about the character strength of integrity!
What is integrity?
Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. People with integrity practice what they preach and maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values. They have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs. Integrity is closely aligned with the terms of honesty and authenticity. People with integrity tell the truth and have alignment in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
The parent virtue for integrity is Courage. Strengths of courage involve applying will and fortitude in overcoming internal or external resistance to accomplish goals. Strengths comprised in this virtue are bravery, perseverance, integrity, and zest/enthusiasm.
Please use these quotes and discuss with your child what they learn about Integrity this week.
"We learned about honesty and integrity - that the truth matters...and success doesn't count unless you earn it fair and square." ~Michelle Obama
August 2020-April 2021Check out the P2 for Families website, which contains 1 quote, 1 video, and 3 questions for your family to discuss. This is designed to be easy for parents to use to lead conversations around the importance of character strengths and positive relationships. It is differentiated for grades Pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Most of these webpages are password protected and the password (very simple) is: P2
Matey-Move-athon!
Wow! I simply cannot thank our school community enough for the outstanding support! Our Matey-Move-athon raised over $30,000 this year. Thank you!
The funds raised will support many areas of our school. The targeted focus was to provide shades in the gym and begin raising funds for an outdoor classroom shade shelter. These focus areas were identified by consulting with staff and our PTA. The shades have been an item of need since the opening of our school but have just now made it to the top of the priority list. The outdoor classroom shade shelter has also been on our wish list but has risen to as we have introduced practices of outdoor snacks/lunches.
In addition, 10% of the proceeds go directly to the classrooms. Grade levels work together to order instructional materials to support learning. Classrooms teachers and specialists were also provided almost $7,000 in grants from our PTA at the beginning of the year to purchase materials, supplies, and instructional items.
The funds from our Matey-Move-athon, spirit nights, and other indirect fundraisers contribute to the success of our school.
On the behalf of our staff - Thank you!
With great respect,
Dr. Daniel Simons
