Men of Distinction
Vol. 3, Ed. 16, 5.15.2019
Mr. Owens believes...
"As a nation, we are in need of educating EVERY child to their highest potential. We need to offer an avenue of hope and accomplishment to help children reach their goals. Mentorship has always been a part of my life and I hope that I will be able to leave a legacy of building up children so they won't become broken men. May our children leave us and go out into the world and make it a better place." ~ Mr. Melvin J. Owens
MOD - LHS Harmon "April Lunch and Learn"
A huge thank you to Dr. Kevin Rogers for presenting to the Men of Distinction his story of perseverance and always putting your best foot forward. Dr. Rogers also shared his life story and how he became the man he is today. The MODs were happy to spend time with the superintendent of schools and for him to be so open with them about his journey. A great way to close out the school year.

2018 - 2019 Men of Distinction Celebration Dinner
It was an awesome time in fellowship and breaking of bread to celebrate our MODs and their mentors. It was great having both LHS Main and Durham MS MODs and mentors in attendance as well. It was wonderful seeing all the parents, grandparents, and younger siblings in attendance to help celebrate their MOD. Salerno's provided an awesome dinner and the room was full of smiles as we got to listen to Mr. John Spriggins, Manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center, speak to us regarding always following your dreams. Mr. Spriggins had everyone mesmerized by his incredible story. Thank you to the Loving Community and community mentors for giving their time and resources to help these young men. Men of Distinction also appreciates all of the support of our principal, Mr. Tony Fontana for all your support. Men of Distinction is finishing our 3rd year at the Harmon campus.
