Hampton Bays Middle School
Monday Memo #19
Dear T.E.A.M. :
Happy and Healthy 2016!
This past week has me thinking quite a bit about our time with our students, and how valuable and precious this time can be.
One of the highlights of our week was when our high-impact Counseling Department hosted our annual College Awareness Day. Visiting college students invested time with our eighth graders, to share wisdom and to answer questions about "college life" and how to succeed...starting right now in middle school.
It was not only a privilege to listen to the questions and the answers between students, but it also made us proud of the amazing work that school counselors do! If you haven't done so recently, I encourage you to stop by our counseling office and thank a member of this stellar team!
So this week was about college awareness, but it also caused many of us to stop and realize, with the onset of a new calendar year, our school year will accelerate. One particular moment represented the passage of time for me, when several of our 5th graders united for a photo with their some of our visitors, their older siblings. One step further, three of these students were our former middle schoolers, who progressed through our school from grade five through eight.
It was moving to see this snapshot in time, because it served to remind us...time goes quickly! This is why we should take the time to raise our awareness...that every minute we get to invest in our students matters. So let's continue to focus on making these minutes count. Before we know it, those fifth graders will be coming back, to tell us about their lives after high school.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students and our middle school program this year.
Happy New Year,
