Book Week Highlights

Glenealy School Book Week 2015 was a huge success! It was fantastic to see all the students so excited about all the events during the week!

The library was a hive of activity every day. Students were meeting authors, entering competitions, shopping for books at the Bookazine Book Fair, listening to stories, watching a puppet show and enjoying all the buzz!

And of course, we all enjoyed the Book Week Character Parade!

Read all about it below.

Author visits...

We had three authors visit us during Book Week - a poet, a non-fiction writer and a children's story book author.

It was great to have a variety of authors in to work with the students.

Many thanks to the PTA who sponsored these author visits - the library would not be able to invite such high-quality authors without the PTA support - thank you to all parents.

More details below...

Nick Toczeck at Glenealy

Nick started off our book week and spent the whole day on Monday with us.

Nick did 2 assemblies for us - one for Years 1, 2 and 3 and then another for Years 4, 5 and 6. He read some poems, showed us some magic tricks and did a puppet show for us too!

Nick later worked with Years 4, 5 and 6 on writing and gave some great teaching points on how to write effective poetry.

Jan Latta at Glenealy

Jan came to us on Tuesday, and spent the whole day. All students were able to hear Jan talk about her adventures as a wildlife photographer, watch a few of her wonderful videos and learn about endangered animals.

More information on Jan and her videos can be found here.

Theadora Whittington at Glenealy

Theadora came to Glenealy on Thursday and spent the morning with Year 1, 2 and 3 students.

She read two of her books and spent time talking with the students about Hong Kong wildlife and ways to care for our environment, as well as writing books.

Learn more about Theadora here.

Character Dress-Up Parade

Thank you for all the effort and thought that parents, children and staff put into their costumes for the character parade! Everyone looked amazing!

Also, a big thank you to the PTA for providing coffee on the morning of the parade!

Bookazine Book Fair

Thank you to all the students, parents and teachers who purchased books during the Bookazine Book Fair.

The students were so excited to shop for books independently and were delighted with their purchases. It was really great to see and hear all the excitement around books.

The sale was an amazing success and thanks to your generosity, Bookazine has been able to donate a grand total of $7,800 worth of books to Glenealy Library!

We look forward to purchasing fabulous new books for the library and thank you very much for your support.

Book Week Fun Competitions

We had a week filled with students entering all the competitions at school!

The winners were drawn and announced at the book week assembly.

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all who entered - all good fun!

Guess Who is Reading...

In this competition, some mystery Glenealy staff were hiding behind books!

Students had to guess them all to be in the lucky draw!

Below is a small sampling of some of the mystery readers, can you recognise any??

Guess the picture book...

Many students entered this fun competition and several winning entries were drawn randomly from a box at assembly.

Below are the clues - can you guess all the titles?

'Catch Me Reading' Photo Competition!

Congratulations to all students who entered the photo competition - we had over 150 entries!

It was very difficult to choose the winners, but after feedback from students and teachers the following enteries were chosen from each category.

Thank you to all those who took part - there were so many amazing photos!

Winning entries are below...

Puppet Show for Years 1, 2 and 3

Mrs Oliver and Mrs Jandu put on a puppet show for our younger students on Wednesday, based on the popular picture book by Drew Daywalt called "The Day the Crayons Quit".

We had lots of giggles and it was a lot of fun.

Second-Hand Book Sale, led by Year 6 students

Our second-hand book sale was a big success during Book Week. Thank you to all the families and children who donated books for this sale.

We raised over $1,500, which will buy new books for Glenealy Library for all to enjoy! A fantastic effort!

Many thanks to the Year 6 students who helped run the book sale!
