Dear Parents and Staff

The children and staff had a wonderful day last Friday celebrating all things Mercy. From the Liturgy of the Word in each of the classes, to learning about Catherine McAuley and the Mercy traditions of our school, followed by the amazing mini fete, capped off with fun times with our buddy classes, we were all exhausted, but super happy, at home time. Thank you to all of the staff who worked so hard, under the leadership of Mrs Stefanie Bradshaw, to make this such a memorable day and to the parents who assisted by supervising groups of the younger children.

The children are now even more aware of the significance of our traditions and of the ongoing need to support those less fortunate than us. In these difficult times I have been blown away by the generosity of our community in raising $2235 to support the works of the Mercy Sisters. We are hoping to have one of the Sisters join us to receive the donation before the end of this Term.

JUNIOR ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The downpour of rain in the very early hours of this morning had me worried but I need not have doubted the ability of Mr Webb to, not only organize a very well-structured Athletics Carnival, but to have ensured that we had perfect weather throughout the Carnival this morning. The children were very excited, and this transferred into great performances by all. Congratulations to everyone for trying so hard to do their best to support each other and their team.

A special thank you to Mrs Danielle Lawrie and Mr David Shumack who, with the assistance of some parents provided us all with a very tasty hamburger to enjoy while we were watching the Carnival.

In a very tight competition, the final results were:

You may have noticed the change of Faction name from Prendiville to Presentation. This has been introduced to better reflect our Mercy and Presentation traditions and the Order foundresses, Catherine McAuley and Nano Nagle.

EDU DANCE

The final concert for our Edu Dance classes will be held on Friday 18 September (M Classes) and Monday 21 September (P Classes). The Concert on both days will commence at 2.00pm as per the following running sheet.

Big picture

We will need to comply with social distancing regulations, so it is important that Parents take careful note of the following:

  • Only two family members for each child are invited to attend the Concert.
  • Only the class performing will be in the Hall during their performance with it being live streamed to all of the other classes so they may watch.
  • Family members are to only attend the performances for their own children and will be asked to leave immediately after these so that other parents may watch the next class.
  • The entire Concert will run for approximately 50 minutes, so it is important that family members arrive at school early in case we are running ahead of schedule.
  • Those waiting for their child’s performance are asked to gather in the Mother Mary Piazza (central courtyard) and they will be called by a staff member for their particular performance.

I realise this all appears to be a bit messy, but we are trying to accommodate everyone under difficult circumstances. Please remember to be patient and everyone should be able to see their child/ren’s performance without fuss.

ADVANCED NOTICE

  • The last day of this Term is Wednesday 23 September as the staff have a Professional Development Day on the Thursday and their Catholic Day on the Friday.
  • The children and staff are invited to wear neat casual clothes for the last day of Term. There is no need for a donation for this privilege.
  • The Sacrament of Confirmation is scheduled to be celebrated on Saturday 7 November at 4.00pm.

What an amazing day we had last Friday for Mercy Day!

We commenced our day with a wonderful celebration of the Liturgy of the Word held in each year level. All students were so reverent and participated in a meaningful conversation about Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy. The students were able to talk about what they have learnt and share how Catherine McAuley’s legacy lives on today. After the liturgy, all students went back to their classes to learn more about the Mercy tradition.

Our fete commenced after recess and what a time we had! The stalls included mini golf, throw the coin on the chocolate bar, guess how many lollies in the jar and a frisbee game!

The afternoon was dedicated time spent with our buddy classes which gave us another opportunity to spend time together.

Best of all, we raised money for the Mercy Sisters!

Finally, thank you to our wonderful parents who volunteered to help out with the junior classes - your time is much appreciated.

We are already counting down the days to

Presentation Day 2021!

YEAR 1 CLASS NEWS

We have been listening to stories about how Jesus was baptised by his cousin and shared experiences of our own Baptism.

Did you get a chance to see 1M’s amazing assembly about different environments? All the Year 1 students this term have been learning how to identify managed, constructed and natural environments.

We have been lucky this term to participate in Makerspace – it is so much fun! We have enjoyed coding the robots with Mrs Mullins, building Lego stories with Ms Dyke and lots of other creative activities. We are making a special Book Creator about everything we are learning.

This term we have also been having Art with Mrs Flexman. We are creating a visual masterpiece just like Monet did with his water lilies. Have a look at our progress so far …

We had a great time last Friday at Mercy Day, enjoying an icy pole, sausage sizzle and juice box. The many stalls were fantastic and the kahoot we did with our buddies was so much fun.

To finish the term we are looking forward to performing our dance at the Edu Dance Concert.

THE EARLY YEARS LEARNING FRAMEWORK

Belonging, Being and Becoming – the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) describes the principles, practices and outcomes that support and enhance young children’s learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school.

The framework is a key component of the National Quality Framework for early childhood education and care. The EYLF was developed by the Australian and state and territory governments with input from the early childhood sector and early childhood academics.

The framework offers a vision where 'all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life'.

(Sourced from https://www.education.gov.au/early-years-learning-framework-0 )

Each week we will feature one of these principles, practises or outcomes in the newsletter.

Over the past weeks we have looked at ‘Belonging’, ‘Learning is Everywhere’, ‘Becoming’ and ‘Being’.

This week let’s look at ‘Relationships matter’.
