Immersion Education – Teaching academic content in another language

Hello Fronteras Families!

What a fabulous couple of weeks at Fronteras! Thank you so much to our Tuesday open gym volunteers! You are truly appreciated!

Fronteras Staff would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of you during last Friday’s earthquake. When an emergency occurs, there are protocols that must be followed to ensure the safety of everyone. As you came to Fronteras to collect your children and those of friends and family, your understanding and patience allowed us to follow our emergency operations procedures. We were able to account for and reunite every student with a parent/guardian. This was and is, much appreciated! Thank you for your trust in us. An important goal during an emergency is that information to families is sent out as quickly as possible. Please know that as soon as systems allow for mass messaging, you will be notified and kept updated. While you may hear from your child’s teacher(s) initially, please do not rely on or expect that communication to continue. The information to follow will come from myself (or designee) via Blackboard. This eliminates mixed messages and potential for rumors. Please email me any suggestions you have for how we could have made the reunification process smoother, more clear, quicker, etc. Our goal is to reunite you and your children as safely and as quickly as possible. Thank you again for putting your faith and trust in us. And thank you to those who have written a note of Thanks. Your kind words mean the world to us!

Mat-Su Special Santa Program 2018

The Mat-Su Special Santa is the largest gift giving program in the Valley. It started in 1997 with 90 children receiving gifts. Last Christmas the program brought toys, winter wear, books, sporting equipment and blankets to over 3,760 Valley children from 1,279 families. Now in its 22nd year the program has given gifts to over 31,000 children in the Valley. Special Santa is under the umbrella of Alaska Family Services, a 501c3 Non-Profit Charity.

The magic of this program is that every donation makes a huge difference and 100% of it goes to help families. For more information you can email matsu_santa@yahoo.com or visit the website at www.specialsanta.net. Forms are on the white board and at the front desk!
