MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Happy Fall! It certainly arrived right on time. This is just a reminder that we do go outside after lunch every day. Please encourage your child to bring a jacket or dress warmly.
This past month we completed FastBridge testing. FastBridge is a screening tool the district uses to help us determine who might need extra help in the areas of reading or math. This past week met with grade level teams to determine which students should move to the next level of assessment. During this next level, our Math and Literacy coaches will do diagnostic testing to determine specific skill deficits and determine what if any intervention would be appropriate. If your child participates in intervention would take place during their ELT and you would be notified.
I would also like to bring to your attention, that we will be continuing the practice of parents not joining their students during the school day for lunch. If you would like to eat with your child you are welcome to pick them up during their lunch and dine off campus together. Thank you for your cooperation.
It is important that families and school are partners in your child's education, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. I always recommend reaching out to the teacher first for specific class concerns. Below you will find the KMS Office contact information for needs outside the classroom. Thank you!

Hello KMS families! My name is Amanda Paruch and I am the new school counselor here at KMS. I spent the 2021-2022 school year at KMS and KHS as an intern and I am so excited to be at KMS full-time this year! I have learned that Kewaskum has an amazing school & local community and I am so grateful to become a part of it. Each month I will write a brief article for the newsletter that will inform families about school counseling-related information at KMS.
In September, students were introduced to me and we talked about what I do as a school counselor in their school. We learned about how to reach me if they needed to meet with me and we talked about “big problems vs small problems,” emphasizing what a crisis situation looks like versus when a student may try some strategies on their own. “Severity” and “persistence” are words that we used to determine the size of the problem which parents may find handy to reinforce at home.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. We will be doing classroom lessons about what bullying is, positive school culture, and what to do as a witness to bullying. Bullying is an unwanted, repeated aggressive behavior that establishes an imbalance of power. Not all unwanted behavior is considered bullying. However, if it does meet that definition, there is a place online where parents and students can report bullying at this link Bullying Report which can be found under “parents” on the kewaskumschools.org webpage. Big problem versus little problem is relevant here as well, and we will help to build skills to handle unwanted peer behavior that does not escalate to the “bullying” degree.
