The Elephant and Piggie Character Tour, courtesy of the Cumberland Valley Education Association, recently returned to our elementary schools. Characters from Mo Willems’ popular book series greeted students and distributed copies of their world-famous books to every first-grader in the District during story-time assemblies over the last few weeks.
Special thanks to CVEA for organizing this annual event, to our staff across the district who came together to donate and distribute 796 books, and to our CV High School students who volunteered as special guests in many of our elementary schools to don the costumes.
Students Selected for All-State Band
The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association has announced that Sophia Deitch and Bhawana Bhandari have reached the highest level a high school musician can achieve by earning a place in the PMEA All-State Concert Band Festival. They will perform at the annual PMEA All-State Festival at the Kalahari Resort in The Poconos, April 19-22, 2023. Nationally recognized conductors at the convention direct the groups of all-state student musicians, who rehearse for two days and conclude with a performance.
6AT Eagle View students have been diligently working on their geography passion projects and demonstrating proficiency in the Portrait of an Eagle competencies. Macie, a 6th grade student whose passion project was on the Philippines, was able to organize a guest speaker presentation to accompany her project, emphasizing both Thinking Critically and Communicating Effectively.
Mr. Juanengo, who immigrated to the United States from Quezon City, Philippines in 2005, visited Eagle View to present and talk about the Philippines, where he lived for the first 34 years of his life. 6AT and an SI class had the opportunity to learn and ask questions about the history and culture of the Philippines. They also learned about Mr. Juanengo’s experience in becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2009. Mr. Juanengo currently works for the Giant Distribution Center in Carlisle and is the husband of Mrs. Juanengo, Eagle View IMC Educational Assistant.
Special thanks to Macie for working so hard on this special project!
Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Our littlest Eagles at Middlesex Elementary School recently finished up CKLA units on Colonial builders and tradespeople by practicing their carpentry skills and trying their hand at sewing. These projects were a great representation of many of our Portrait of an Eagle competencies, including responsibility, communication, and confidence. They are a Portrait of an Eagle!
Photos courtesy Mrs. Suzanne Hess, Middlesex Kindergarten Teacher, who says these units have quickly become some of her classroom's favorites so far this year.

Reminder: Change to Start/End Times for Eastern Elementary Schools
District administration has been working over the past year to identify ways to return our eastern elementary schools to an earlier start time. With the identification of an additional transportation service and new drivers, we believe we are able to move Hampden, Shaull, Sporting Hill, and Winding Creek Elementary schools back to a 9:15 a.m. start time, with an end time of 3:55 p.m., beginning next school year.
Please click the Quick Access link below to view the anticipated 2023-24 instructional day schedule by building for each school across the district. (NOTE: Hours in which the building is physically open and students are permitted to enter for the start of the day vary by building.)
