Celebrating the Marks you Make
In an effort to connect the DOTS and highlight the MARK you MAKE (aka the amazing work done throughout our program), this section is now be a regular occurrence in the Weekly Bulletin. My hope is you will share a picture and description of a best practice or highlight, or even email me a shout-out (in words) to a fellow colleague who deserves some recognition! Let's all lift each other up in celebration!!

ACTIVE SUPERVISION
Active supervision during outdoor learning is essential! This requires focused attention and intentional observation of children at all times. Active supervision promotes a safe and fun environment and helps prevent injuries in young children. Integrate these strategies during outdoor learning to ensure your students explore their environments safety and enjoy their outdoor learning time:
*Environment Set Up-When activities, equipment and open spaces are designed well, it is easier to supervise by sight and sound. Provide students with opportunities to engage in different activities-gross motor, fine motor, art, science, and more.
*Scan and Listen-Move around the playground to monitor from all angles. Continuously scan the playground and listen for specific sounds or the absence of sounds that may signify concern. By listening closely, you can immediately identify signs of potential danger.
*Head Counts-Conduct head counts often. Counts before and after transitions will ensure all children are with the group when moving from one location to another.
*Avoid Distractions-Limit time talking with other adults or looking at a device.
*Anticipate Children's Behavior-Use your knowledge of each child's development and abilities to anticipate what the child will do next and what support may be needed. A proactive approach provides opportunities for staff to provide guidance, conflict resolution strategies, and teachable moments.

Early Learning and Kinder Festival
The Long Beach Unified School District's series of Early Learning and Kindergarten Festivals, held for families of incoming 2024-25 transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten students, are set to begin Saturday, Jan. 20.
The popular, free event will provide families with information on LBUSD early learning programs and registration procedures, as well as free parent workshops, dental screenings and many more fun activities. Families who attend at least two workshops will also receive a free backpack while supplies last.
Following is the schedule of festivals, which are planned for 9 a.m. to noon (registration begins at 8:45 a.m.):
- Saturday, Jan. 20 at Burcham Elementary School, 5610 Monlaco Road, Long Beach
- (Virtual) Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 7 p.m. at lbschools.net/youtube
- Saturday, Feb. 3 at Dooley Elementary School, 5075 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach
- Saturday, March 2 at Roosevelt Elementary, 1574 Linden Ave., Long Beach
Toileting Memo
Please CLICK HERE to access the LBUSD Toileting Memo. This explains the procedures when a child enters our program (or TK/Kinder) without being fully toilet trained. It is essential you know the expectations of our staff.
ALL CCW's must watch the videos below and sign off on the "Staff Toileting Acknowledgement Form," and then submit the form to their Coordinating Teacher.
CCW and CCT IA Summer Employment Opportunity
If you are a Child Care Worker or a CCT Instructional Aid working less than 12 months with a contract (FTE) the time has come to apply for summer employment.
Deadline: Friday March 22, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.
Access online application via
Google Forms on our website:
1. Go to www.lbschools.net, under the “Main Menu”
2. Under “Staff”, select “Personnel Commission”
3. On our webpage click “Summer Employment”
4. Click on “2024 Classified Summer School Application”
5. Sign into Google Account using District email and password
Every year, we have CCWs/IAs who miss the deadline, please complete the application even if you are not planning on working during the summer. If something changes in your work availability in the future, then you are already in the system to be able to work. Even if you applied to work during the summer, if something changes in your work availability, and you are not able to work, just let us know. You would work the days that you are available so applying does not hurt you in any way. The CDC program is open during the entire summer and your assistance is always needed.
Please see your classroom Teacher or Coordinating Teacher for a device or assistance, if needed.

Reminders
Procedure for communicating concerns and emergencies
- Call the CDC Office and ask to speak to an Administrator
- If it is an emergency, let the office staff know. Office staff will locate an Administrator and transfer the phone call.
- If an Administrator is not available, the Office staff will either let you know who to contact or will contact the appropriate Administrator. This will ensure you are not contacting an Administrator that is not available (in a meeting, vacation, PN, etc).
- If it is not an emergency, please leave a message with the Office staff and email Admin.
- CCW’s and Teachers should report all concerns to the CT. If the CT is not available, they should follow the procedures as outlined above.
