SUMMER SPECIALTY SHOW JUDGE'S CRITIQUES

JUDGE’S CRITIQUE

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL CLUB OF GREATER ATLANTA

SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 2019

First, I would like to thank the CKCSC of Greater Atlanta for the invitation to judge. Also, a sincere thanks to the exhibitors for such an amazing number of exceptionally beautiful and well-presented exhibits. Many of the awards/decisions were difficult; as there were so many worthy recipients.

BOB (GCHB Kellen Backseat Boy) was a tri dog that took my breath away when he entered the ring (first impressions do count). His profile was complemented by his reach and drive, creating smooth flowing movement. An elegant neck and headpiece with a melting expression helped to make a very beautiful, complete package.

BOS (Ch Jayba Ooh La La) was the epitome of breed type with an obvious gay, happy temperament. She was an excellent feminine example. Proper structure and a beautiful face completed the picture.

BW, WB, BBE (Almeara Once Smitten Twice Loved) was another lovely, feminine bitch with plenty of spark and personality. Correct structure, a shiny coat and a pleasing expression help finish this pretty exhibit.

WD (La Canina Yankee Doodle) was a ruby dog of rich color in lovely coat. His large, dark eyes gave him a melting expression. Reach and drive provided smooth movement and with his arch of neck made a pleasing profile as he moved around the ring.

BEST PUPPY (Jayba I Want Candy) was a youngster with plenty of gay, happy Cavalier temperament. She was well structured and I predict a promising future.

VETERAN (Karvale Brookhaven Finn THDA, CGCA) what a joy to judge and watch go around the ring. With his soft expression, this handsome gentleman was an excellent representative of our breed.

It was my pleasure to present SELECT DOG to Ch Chocoletto Du Chateau Noblesse and SELECT BITCH to Ch Angel’s Pride Nessaja. Both were strong contenders.

Congratulations to AOM (Ch Garfield, AOM (Ch Ranlyn Do You Believe In Magic and AOM (GCH Tudorose Rhythm N Blues). All were excellent breed type.

Also, congratulations to BOH (GCH Ranlyn’s Diamonds Are Forever). This is a class that I love and hope more owner handlers will become involved.

I believe that this was an exceptional show because of the high quality of the exhibits. Truly some decisions/awards were difficult to make; and often the second place might have been first on any other day. Also, please keep in mind that my opinion is only one opinion.

In general, I believe breeders have done an outstanding job in producing beautiful heads with large, dark eyes. However, I believe there is work to be done on rears. I saw some close rears. Overall breed type consisting of: profile, head/expression(love when they use their ears), coat(no trimming), free movement(lose lead) and temperament was readily apparent in most exhibits. It was a very enjoyable day for me to be asked to judge so many excellent exhibits. Thank you.

Janice S. Gallagher, AKC Judge # 64738

NATURAL REMEDIES

KILL AND REPEL FLEAS NATURALLY

Coconut oil kills and repels fleas due to the ingredient lauric acid. This solution can be rubbed through your pet's coat or given to them orally. ... A bonus: Coconut oil moisturizes the skin and helps kill yeast, too.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Peanut Butter Coconut Oil Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-natural peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon unprocessed coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • silicon paw print tray

Instructions

  • Be sure the coconut oil is in liquid form. If not, place coconut oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook until melted.

  • Add peanut butter and cinnamon. Stir until mixture is completely smooth and thoroughly mixed. The mixture should be thick, but pourable.

  • Pour mixture into a tray and freeze until set.

  • Carefully remove from tray and store in an air-tight container in the freezer (they soften quickly).

Notes

These were made for dogs in the 10-15 pound range. Adjust the amount of coconut oil accordingly. Rule of thumb is that you use 1 teaspoon of coconut oil per 10 pounds of your dog's body weight. One treat per day will do the trick.
