May and June 2021

News from Mrs. Thode

Oh, my! Time is flying by. It is now May. The final quarter of school has been very busy and will continue to be unit the very end. We have a lot of testing to complete with all students.

ISASP Information:

Students at Riverside in third, fourth, and fifth grades have started taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress(ISASP). Fourth grade has completed their assessments. Third grade is finishing their writing on Tuesday, May 4. Fifth grade will complete the language and writing portions on Tuesday and Wednesday May 4th and 5th and the science test on Thursday, May 6th. During the testing, it is important that students get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast and come to school each day.

FAST Assessments:

Kindergarten and First grade students will be taking the Early Reading, aReading, and Early Math assessment in the next few weeks. These assessments will tell us the progress they have made in reading and math this school year. Second through fifth grade students will be taking the Reading CBMR, aReading, and CBM Math CAP tests. These will also tell us the progress they have made in reading and math. These assessments are given in the fall, winter and spring. I can't wait to see how much progress our students made this school year.

Last Day of School:

Tuesday, June 1st will be the last day of school for students. There will be 2:30 dismissal on this day. Students will bring home any remaining school supplies and report cards on this day.

Masks:

Students and staff are still required to wear face masks at school. We have run out of disposable youth-size masks. Please send a mask with your child each day, as we do not have enough masks for all students each day. Thank you for your help with this.

End of Year Updates:

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we will not have many of our end-of-the-year celebrations that have happened in the past. We are not able to go on any field trips at this time. We also are not going to have a field day. Along with contamination concerns, parents are still not allowed in the building and thus we would not have enough volunteers to run field day. Thank you for your understanding. We are hoping that next year we can return to many of these celebrations.

Attention Parents: Student Medication for End of 2020/2021 School Year

Student medication and/or medical supplies will be sent home with your child on the last day of school. If you would like to make other arrangements, please contact the school office before the last day of school. Any unused medication that remains at school will be disposed of in compliance with federal and state law or will be given to the School Resource Officers for proper disposal.

Thank You!

Thank you to you all for a great first year as the principal of Riverside Elementary. It has been such an honor for me to get to know all of you. I look forward to working with all of you in the future. It has been a year with many challenges, however, it has also been very rewarding. I love the students, staff and families of Riverside.

Have a safe summer!
Mrs. Thode
