High School Registration for Rising Ninth Graders

Exciting times are ahead for eighth graders regarding the registration for high school.

Students who reside in the Richlands High School district met with counselors and other high school staff on Thursday, March 2nd as an introductory to the registration process. All students who will be attending Richlands High School are invited to a parent (and students are welcome to attend with their parent) meeting scheduled for Monday, March 20th at 6:30pm in the Richlands High School auditorium.

Students who reside in the Southwest High School district will meet with a Southwest High School counselor on Thursday, March 23rd from 8:30am to 9:30am regarding preregistration. Southwest High School will also be hosting a parent (and students are welcome to attend with their parent) night meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 29th at 6:00pm in the Southwest High School auditorium.

Families will find the evening presentations very informative as high school curriculum, registration requirements, extracurricular activities, and special events beyond the classroom will be shared. While transitioning from middle school to high school is an exciting time, we also realize that it can be a little intimidating and if Trexler’s counselors can assist you in any way please let us know. Additionally, each high school has two counselors and other staff that will be able to assist families with this transition.

Good Luck Odyssey of the Mind Team!

The excitement for the Odyssey of the Mind team is building! On Saturday March 4, six Trexler Falcons will be competing in the regional tournament for Odyssey of the Mind presenting their solution to the problem, To Be Continued: A Superhero Cliffhanger. The Falcon Family wishes Ariel Swinson, Dylan Dail, Andrew Maldonado, Angel Orozco, Kevin Owens, and Taylor Carle the best of luck as they compete this weekend.

8th Grade Falcon Finale End of Year Dance

Trexler's PTO Update on the Falcon Finale:

The time is almost here for one of the most memorable nights for an eighth grader in middle school…. the 8th grade only dance (known in The Lands as the “Falcon Finale”). From their very first day on our campus as 6th graders students begin looking forward to the night when they get to walk the red carpet, and celebrate with friends all the memories they have made throughout their time here at Trexler. We know that our parents are just as excited for this night, too! We as parents love the times we get to celebrate with our children their accomplishments, and get the opportunity to watch them continue to grow into all they are meant to be. As staff members, it is hard for us to believe that almost three years ago, our newest Falcons on campus are now almost ready to take the Final Falcon Flight. With this memorable night, just around the corner Trexler’s PTO would like to invite all 8th grade parents to help us make this night one in which our students will be able to make memories that will last them a lifetime. So, get your cameras ready (and probably have a few tissues close by, too)!

Be sure to mark your calendar for May 5th from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Ticket information will be sent home with students soon.

If you want to help plan the event, please plan to attend a Parent Planning Meeting on Thursday, March 23rd @ 6:00pm in Trexler’s Media Center.

Competitors answered questions from a list of 27 books selected by the North Carolina School Library Media Association. Titles from the 2017 list included The Emerald Atlas, Schooled, Cracker! The Best Dog in Vietnam and Three Times Lucky. Trexler's team members were Allison Bundle, Leticia Cordova, Lena Phillips and Azel Solomon. While the team unfortunately did not place in the top three, students were energized by the love for reading and are eagerly awaiting the release of the 2018 book list! Statewide Tornado Drill

As Winter transitions to Spring, the chance for severe weather increases. Often times, tornadoes and inclement weather is associated with the Spring and summer months and therefore the state of North Carolina requires public schools to participate in a statewide tornado drill each Spring. This year the statewide drill is set for March 8th around 9:30 AM. Trexler performs drills throughout the school year in a variety of emergency situations and therefore all staff and students have been trained in tornado emergency procedures.

Trexler’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

We have been so blessed to see how our newest organization on campus has grown throughout the school year. Every monthly meeting, we have continued to grow in the number of students who attend and in those searching for ways to show kindness to others in our school and community. Student leaders have used team building activities and scripture to focus on topics, such as qualities of a good friend, how to handle drama, and dealing with everyday stress. Thank you to our eighth grade students who each meeting demonstrate much leadership and are setting a positive example for the underclassmen. It is our desire to continue to grow in attendance and make a positive impact on our campus and in our community. Remember, that FCA is not just for athletes but is for all students who want to attend and have a desire to help others.
