Principal's Message
It is hard to believe we are into the second week of December. Our students are trying to reach the 90,000 steps reading goal by the end of December. If we meet our goal, we will play school-wide bingo on the last day of school before the break. Please continue to support students reading at least two steps per evening. Each step equals 15 minutes of reading.
While I know the health and safety procedures related to COVID-19 can be frustrating, I appreciate your patience and support as our team works through each positve case and close contact notifications. We continue to wipe down surfaces, wear masks indoors and wash hands during transitions. Please be sure to send an extra mask or two with your child in case they need a replacment. Stay proactive and healthy; the best thing we can do is build a strong immune systems with a balance diet, good sleep and exercise. You may also consider the COVID-19 vaccines to protect you and your child.
Winter seems like it has arrived. Cold temperatures forecasted for Monday and Tuesday. Be sure to send your child with a coat, hat and gloves for the two recess times each day. If you are in need of winter gear, please see your child's teacher or contact the office. We do have donated items to offer students.
I hope you have a great week! Please don't hesitate to contact me at sbaier1@isd77.org if you questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend,

You can follow us on Facebook for update at www.facebook.com/washingtonptomankato. We will also be sending flyers and posting information soon about our Washington Walkathon and fall picnic on October 7. The Walkathon is the PTO's biggest fundraiser and a fun event for the students during the school day. The evening picnic is a great opportunity to have fun with your family and get to know other Washington Families and will be incorporated with Open House this year. Looking forward to another great year at Washington!

COVID Preparedness Plan; Planning for a Return to School, Fall 2021
~ Masks: You might want to add "masks" to the school supply list this year. While we will certainly give out masks to students who do not bring one, this is not something that we can do every single day. We simply do not have an unlimited supply of masks. Your help in making sure that students come to school with a mask is needed. If you'd like to donate masks to the office and/or your child's classroom, please know we would welcome any/all donations.
Current District 77 Health Guidance (Click Here) are from the Minnesota Department of Health Best Practices for COVID-19 Prevention in Schools and the Centers for Disease Control - Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention in K-12 Schools. As we prepare for a return to school this fall, I have been getting a few questions about online school options. While there are still many logistics to work out, families will have an option through the service coop (SCSC) to join an asynchronous online school experience. At the elementary level this model will require parent oversight for their students. As a district we will provide technology for our students who enroll (device and internet if needed).
