What's New in Mrs. Allen's Room?
September 19-23, 2016
Happy Sunday everyone! It's always a good day when the sun is shining!
This week will be a bit more relaxed than normal since we're off a day in the middle of the week. We'll do some review work in grammar, and we'll continue with our penguin theme from last week. We won't be working out of our reading book this week, so don't look for it to come home. You should see math and science books coming home though, since we have tests in both subjects this week.
I was out on Friday afternoon, and it's always SUPER awesome to come back to a nice note from the sub! I may have offered a bit of a bribe to your kids, but when it works, it's well worth it! :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and GO COLTS!!

This Week in 3rd Grade:
GRAMMAR: Review skills
SPELLING: NO SPELLING THIS WEEK!! :)
WRITING: We will continue to work on the writing process, narrative writing, and move into informative writing. Most of our writing this week will involve penguin research.
MATH: We will wrap up Topic 3: Using Place Value to Add and Subtract. Our Topic 3 test will be on Thursday, September 22. ALSO...since we don't have spelling words this week, we will have a math vocabulary list to work on. There will be a quiz over the terms on Friday. We will revisit this same list one or two more times this year in order to prepare for state testing. Click the link below to see the list...
SCIENCE: Due to some delays and picture day, we were unable to finish and test over Unit 2 last week. We will review Unit 2 on Monday and have the test on Tuesday. Again, students will be allowed and encouraged to use their science books on the test. We will begin Unit 3: Earth Materials on Thursday.
- REMEMBER...kids have NO SCHOOL on Wednesday. Just the teachers have school. :(
- Have your child dress in layers this time of year. It's hot outside, but chilly in the classroom with the air conditioner on. Please remember that students must have sleeves on their shirts and no flip flops. See the student handbook that came home at the beginning of the year for more information. Students can keep a jacket or sweater in their lockers if they'd like.
