Lindsey Weekly Update
February 5, 2021
Message from Mrs. Bellan
It was a wonderful week here at Lindsey! Time is flying and we continue to be so pleased with our students' commitment to their school work. We have seen beautiful gains in our Fall to Winter MAP growth and I will be sharing some slides to let families see our collective gains. We have been having explicit conversations with our students to help them learn to set short and long-term goals for their achievement.
Next week third-grade families will receive a color copy of their child's Ohio State test performance from the FALL test. Please know this data was already sent to you immediately after the scores were released but we wanted you to also have the color copy that is now available for your records.
Thanks for everyone's support in reminding your children to record their academic minutes daily on the provided calendar. A google form will be available by the month's end so they can receive prizes if they meet our goal of 600 minutes per month.
We sincerely appreciate everyone's ongoing support with the growth of our children!
Best,
Meagan
Details for the Lindsey Valentine's Celebration
We wanted to reach out to you regarding the upcoming Valentine's Day Classroom Parties, which will take place on Thursday, February 11th at 2:30 p.m. We are excited for our students to enjoy the opportunity to share positive notes with one another and engage in an activity/craft organized by classroom room parents.
You and your child may be in the process of selecting the Valentine they will want to distribute during the classroom party. We want to assure you and your child that we are taking the following steps to maintain the health and safety of everyone.
If the Valentine is placed into an envelope, please do not seal the envelope unless doing so by a sticker only.
Valentines should be brought to school on Friday, February 5th.
Valentines will be sorted so that they can sit untouched for almost a week.
Valentines will be put into a white lunch bag (provided by PTO) that can be decorated that students will be able to take home following the party. Students will be instructed to not open their cards until they get home that evening with their parent(s)’ approval.
We want to remind you that Valentine’s may not be accompanied by food or candy. Valentines with non-food attachments are permitted. Your child's teacher may provide further directions if necessary. Virtual teachers will communicate a plan with their families regarding drop off and pick up of Valentines. We want to thank you for your cooperation so that we can maintain a safe party experience for our students.
Video to explain our Kick-Off!
Reading/Math Monthly Kick-Off!
Who: All Students Grade K-5
What: Beginning in February each student will be given a calendar where they can record the number of minutes they are completing academic work at home. At the end of each month, students will total their accrued minutes and will complete a Google Form to earn prizes. Prizes will be sponsored by PTO and will include a special key chain with "brag tags" that can be earned each month.
When: We will begin February 1st and students should begin logging time on the paper calendar they spend reading, practicing math facts, homework, or completing IXL activities.
Why: Students at Westwood will have a monthly goal of 500 minutes and Lindsey students will have a goal of 600 minutes. For our WW students, this equates to 20 minutes 5 days a week and for Lindsey students, we hope all students are reading a minimum of 20 minutes a day and spending at least 10 minutes on Mathematics.
How: In the weekly newsletter the last week of February, we will send a link to the Google Form to remind all students to document their time. We will then pass out prizes to all students who met the established goal! We appreciate your partnership in this endeavor as well as our participation with PTO and student council to make this exciting for our kids!
