St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 6 - Term 3 (Wednesday 26 August)
St Jerome’s Primary School acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners and Elders, both past and present, of the lands on which this school is located.
Dear Parents and members of our school community
A Prayer for My Friends
God, Thank You for my friends. You tell us that it is not good to be alone, God, and bless us with family and friends all around us. Thank You for giving us people to talk to and laugh with. I pray for my friends today, that they have a good day and a blessed life. They are a blessing to me, God, when I need them the most. Just like Jesus is to me. Help me to be kind like Jesus. To be a good friend to others and spread His love.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
This week's newsletter is a day early and a relatively short one.
I came across this list from Nature Play WA. I enjoyed ticking off the things my grand daughter has already done by age 4 and I intend to print this off and ensure she completes all 51 in the next few years. I encourage you to check out this list too.

MJR Focus - Giver not a Taker!
Our focus for the last few weeks has been to be a ‘giver’ not a ‘taker’.
You might like to answer the following questions with your children to see how successful they have been.
How do I "give" to my family at home?

How am I a "taker" at home?

Parent Teacher Meetings
Parent Teacher meetings will take place in week 9 & 10 this term. There will be a late night on Tuesday 22nd September where interviews will finish at 6pm. Meetings will be 10 minutes long and parents can book a time on line through PTO as of next week.
Further information will be sent out later in the week.
Lapathon Friday 28th August
It is not too late to sponsor your children for our annual Lapathon which supports Life link and other charities that the school supports. This will take place on Friday this week at the following times. Parents are welcome to attend their child’s session but we ask parents to adhere to the social distancing guidelines of 2 square metres per person.
This year we are using the Lapathon to raise awareness of the need for clean drinking water in Third World countries.
For the last 5mins of the Lapathon the children will carry a cup of water as they complete their laps and see how much they are able to keep in their cup. At the end of the event they will return the remaining water to the bucket to see how much they have all retained.
The idea behind this is to raise awareness of those children and mothers who walk long distances each day to collect water from wells, rivers and pools in any containers that they have at their disposal. They then have to return to their villages carrying all the water they can.
You might like to view the following links that show what life in these Third World countries is like.

Great Book Swap Challenge
It's time to clean out your book shelves and donate your pre-loved books to the St Jerome's GREAT BOOK SWAP CHALLENGE! We ask that families send their books in to school by the end of Week 6. On 2 September, students will be able to purchase a pre-loved book for a gold coin donation. All donations will go the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who will purchase new books for children living in remote communities. We thank you for your generosity.
Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum - Parent Tips
Tip #7 – Praise your child appropriately. People who bully or prey on children choose those whom they perceive as having a low self-esteem.
Tip #8 – Have a secret family code in case of an emergency. It might be a word, or a phrase or something of significance in the family. You can use it when you need to send someone the child doesn’t know to pick them up from school, or for occasions when you need your child to stop what they are doing and listen to you.

The talent show will only have students as participants and audience from Year 4-6. This will ensure our limits remain at allowable levels for an indoor venue.
Only parents of students performing plus the Year Six parents that are doing an item, can attend the talent show.
