The Roundup
A gathering space for educators
May 2019
In the Instructional Services Department at Van Buren Intermediate School District, supporting teachers and administrators with instruction is the heart of our work. It is our hope that this monthly newsletter will help capture upcoming events and important information to support your work in your districts, schools, and classrooms.
We are working hard to create professional learning opportunities for all educators.
Take a look at the highlighted events below!
Collaboration with Families
col·lab·o·ra·tion
noun
-----the action of working with someone to produce or create something.
Essential Practice #10 focuses on Collaboration with Families in Promoting Literacy. As we continue to learn more about the most current research, we begin to realize that we are moving from Family Engagement being heavily practiced during pockets of the school year or for specific events towards a newer model where the outcome of Family Engagement has a scope and sequence as part of the curriculum. You can find a video of Dr. Patricia Edwards in the Essential Practice Module where she shares about Parent Stories, Literacy in the Home, Environmental Print, and Bilingualism among other strategies and topics.
Additionally, here are some recommended books and resources for you that align to Essential Practice #10.
