Principal's Report
Welcome to the end of Week 9.
Only one week of term to go and I know we have a lot of tired staff and students looking forward to the term break.
The number of COVID cases in our school community has decreased significantly, however we are still having 3-4 positive cases every week. It is important that we continue to be diligent with our hygiene practices and monitor ourselves and our students for signs of illness. Students and staff who are unwell need to stay away from home to avoid spreading their illness to others. This term our school has been hit badly by the flu and a range of other bugs. Please keep your unwell children at home.
Have a great weekend and a fantastic last week of term.
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki.
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU TO CLUTHA VETS AND OUR RURAL FAMILIES! (Thanks to the scheme below BPS has received a donation this week!)
Clutha Vets have been working with their farmer clients to raise money for local schools, to put towards sports & activities.
Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) first appeared in New Zealand in 2017, and since then an eradication programme has been in place. This includes a surveillance programme. While dairy farms can be tested through the milk, beef stock & dairy heifers have to be blood tested. Much of this fully-funded testing is voluntary, and the aim is to cast as wide a net as possible, just in case there are any pockets of infection out there that we don’t know about.
Clutha Vets have been encouraging our local beef & dairy farmers to get on board with this testing, which can often be done at the same time as other routine procedures (pregnancy testing, heifer Teatsealing, bull testing etc). They can offer free travel for these jobs, as well as reduced costs on any additional blood tests (BVD, Trace Elements etc).
Clutha Vets will also donate $1 from every blood test to local schools, to put towards sports & activities. They have asked their clients to nominate which school they would like the money to go to.
Up until May 2022, they have raised $6,500, which will be divided up and donated to schools hopefully before the end of June 2022.
The scheme is ongoing, so we encourage farming parents to get in touch with Clutha Vets if you have eligible stock.
