Scholarship Corner - Delegate and Senator Scholarship
This month we are encouraging all of our seniors to apply for Senator and Delegate Scholarships given by your representatives in the MD General Assembly. Typical scholarships range from $200-$1000 and are renewable all four years of college. Students must have a 2.5 GPA and be planning to attend a Maryland college or university.
Each representative manages their scholarship slightly differently. We recommend you use www.mdelect.net to enter your address and determine your Senator and Delegate. From there you will need to reach out to the representative (via email or by checking their website) to ask for their application. Most applications are due April 1. See Ms. Serico with questions.
SAT PREPARATION FOR JUNIORS
The Counseling Office along with the English and Math Departments have been working together to present two Saturday SAT prep activities for Junior students.
Our first event, held Saturday February 22nd, provided students with the opportunity to take an entire practice SAT. We are incredibly proud of the 112 Juniors who attended this session and worked diligently throughout the morning!
The second, an SAT Prep Workshop, will take place on Sat March 7th from 9-noon. At the workshop students will have opportunities to brush up on frequently addressed SAT concepts and learn test taking strategies. Pizza will be provided at the end of the SAT Prep Workshop.
Students must sign up for the Prep Workshop in Naviance.
Juniors Class of 2021- Time to Start Thinking About Post Secondary Plans!
If you (or your student) plans to apply to four year colleges we highly recommend you begin visiting colleges and taking tours so you can get a sense of what your student wants out of a college campus. Below you will find a video on creating a college list. Here's a great article on how to develop a college list: https://www.ivywise.com/ivywise-knowledgebase/newsletter/article/juniors-how-to-build-your-balanced-college-list-6/
Attached below you will find the 4 year College Planning Timeline for the Class of 2021. This includes what students should be doing each month starting this winter to be prepared for the college application process.
Lastly, you should be receiving an email from your student's counselor in the coming weeks regarding setting up a junior meeting to discuss post secondary plans. We believe strongly that parents should be involved in the process and hope you will join us for that meeting!
