Message From Central Road School
Mrs. Joanna Shostachuk, School Principal
A Note from Mrs. Shostachuk 12/18/2022
Dear Central Road Families:
It is hard to believe this will be our last parent communication of 2022. As we move through this holiday season, we are reminded to take pause to enjoy the beauty of it. During winter break, we are reminded to slow down, take in the meaning of the season, cherish our family & friends, and feel the sense of community that joins us all together. We too take time and pause in helping those who may be less fortunate. Please know we are thinking of your families and sending positive thoughts during this time of year. Thank you for taking time to our weekly communication. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out for support and/or clarification. We look forward to welcoming back students on Monday, December 19th for a few days before we break for winter vacation. We will retun back on Monday, January 9, 2023!
Kindly,
Joanna Shostachuk

January Behavior Expectations Refresh
While we are eagerly looking forward to some relaxing time off during winter break, District 15 teachers are hard at work planning for learning in January. When we return from break, every school in the district will be reviewing school-wide expectations and engaging in station rotations, where students visit locations throughout the school and discuss appropriate behavior and expectations, such as the hallway, bathroom, and lunchroom. Classroom teachers will also review behavior expectations and classroom routines to ensure students are reminded of what is needed and expected at school.
You can support this work at home as well!
As you prepare to return to school from break, have a conversation with your child about school behavior expectations. Talk about what it looks and sounds like to be respectful, responsible, and safe at school, on the bus, on the playground, in the lunchroom, and in the hallway. Small reminders, support, and encouragement about behavior can have a big impact on how students return to learning in January.
Recess & Cold Weather Guidelines
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide playground supervision. If students are not following behavior expectations, a staff member will address the behavior with the student(s). Based on the behavior, the child may speak to an administrator.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
- Please let us know if you have any questions related to our recess guidelines.
Thank A Staff Member
