Counting Collections Through the Elementary Years
Counting is fundamental to learning mathematics in elementary school. It supports the development of a deep understanding of numbers, providing the core foundation for understanding place value, how numbers are composed and decomposed, and how they are related to one another. A deep understanding of numbers allows students to operate on them in powerful ways. This session helps teachers understand counting and its application across elementary grades, as well as develop tools, strategies, and routines that support a deep understanding of numbers through counting.

Exploring Fractions through Virtual Manipulatives
During this hands-on session, you will learn ways to help students develop a conceptual understanding of fraction concepts using virtual manipulatives in a fun and engaging way. We will explore ways to deepen students' fractional reasoning using virtual tools to help students make meaningful connections, clarify ideas, and build fraction sense. Virtual manipulatives cannot take the place of physical manipulation in the classroom, so we will use tools such as Cuisenaire rods, pattern blocks, etc. that are accessible to teachers but using a virtual format.
