From the Principal's Pen
January 29, 2021
As many know the Board of Education is seeking 1.7 million dollars in next year’s budget for the design plans for Julian Curtiss. Our community, comprised of both former parents and present parents, came out and spoke in support of this budget on Tuesday, January 26th.
Thank you to the parents and community members that spoke, thank you to those that signed the petition, and thank you to those that signed in to watch! Our voices were heard!
The Budget Committee will begin its meetings on the proposed budget with town departments starting on Tuesday, starting with Superintendent Toni Jones and BoE Chairman Bernstein.
Meetings will continue through February. The Budget is scheduled to make its recommendations on any changes and adjustments on March 4th and March 5th.
Once the committee recommends a budget, the BET will hold another public hearing on March 29th with the vote scheduled for March 30th.

A Message from WMS Principal Gordon Beinstein
Dear Parents of 4th and 5th Graders,
Just a final reminder that there will be an informational session to learn about the district’s only magnet middle school. Western Middle School offers the AVID schoolwide program, designed to teach students the skills they need to meet with success in school and beyond. The schoolwide focus is on the explicit teaching of executive functioning skills including, but not limited to note-taking, test-taking, organization, time management, and self-reflection.
Western Middle School is a special place that I have been so proud to call my home these past 8 years. To provide a little glimpse into what we have built, here are few articles that I think will
give you a sense of what we are about.
The virtual information session will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd starting at 6:30. I hope to ‘see’ many of you there: Here is the meeting link: meet.google.com/yuw-apwz-ybk
