Helping children deal with stress
1. Talk about what stress is and help to normalize it and help students understand what their body is trying to tell them.
2. When students can identify what stress feels like in their bodies, have them keep a journal to track their feelings and experiences. This will help identify patterns.
3. Set up calm routines for morning, after school, and bedtime. Your children might find meditation, music, or putting away devices an hour before bedtime helpful in reducing stress.
4. Focus on support. I place a big emphasis on reaching out for help when feeling overwhelmed! I want my students to know that it’s okay to ask for help or to talk about how they’re feeling with others.
5. Mindfulness is a powerful tool for reducing stress by focusing on the here and now. Many students find themselves stressing about future or past events, and mindfulness combats this type of thinking.

Reminders
- Parents have the opportunity to enroll students in Virtual Health Care. This can help students to get medical care while at school. Registration Link: https://urgentcarekids.formstack.com/forms/itascaisd_registration_english
- Please contact Nurse Rea if you have questions about Virtual Health Care at srea@itascaisd.net
- As we work to reduce our COVID exposure, please do not send students to school if someone living in the home has tested positive or if the student is running a fever.
