Ms. Hess & Ms. Powell-Littler 4/13/17
Class News 4 - 13 - 17
In literacy this week, we read a historical fiction book called So Far From the Sea. Students made a text to text connection with a book that we had read previously, called Baseball Saved Us. Liam was also able to share some of his insightful background knowledge about Japanese Internment camps. Students continued to learn about memoirs in literacy, and also began writing their own memoirs.
In math, we began to look at different polygons. Students learned to classify different types of triangles, such as isosceles, scalene, and equilateral. They began classifying different quadrilaterals as well. Halle has been a total leader in this process of geometry, she has great background knowledge that she has been sharing with the class.
In science, we began tracking our shadows at different points in the day. We are learning that we rotate around the sun, which is why it appears that the sun is moving over the course of the day! Tracking our shadows and tracking the sun was a good way for us to get some extra time out in the sunshine.
Next week, we will be working on showing what we know on the Iowa Assessments as well as continuing our investigation of the sun, moon, and planets. Please see the information below regarding our plans and needs.
